Thankfully I have never needed to use it before but I was wondering if someone has before (paid 3% protection fee then did not receive their product and sought restitution via PayPal). Just wondering how much of a pain it is.
If you're the buyer you're 99.5% chance to win. If you're the seller you're 100% to lose.
I had a transaction where the buyer wanted a refund and opened a case. He wanted the refund because he bought a collectible item when it was hot (imagine this years hot Christmas toy)... the value quickly fell... he realized he could open a case, get a refund, and buy cheaper. He won... So in general, I agree with the above.

I currently have an open claim with Paypal. I am the buyer. Bought a slot machine from a guy in California, advertised as working (works great!), original parts. It was shipped in a cardboard box with ZERO padding -- needless to say, it arrived damaged, and no longer works.
I have a claim with FedEx and with Paypal, hoping to win one of them (easier to give money back if I win both). So far, nothing but silence from both.
I did use my credit card via Paypal. Maybe I should initiate a claim with them too.
I'll be super pissed if I lose this...that damn thing cost me an arm and a leg!
Ugh, that's gross. On what basis did he claim his case warranted a refund?
No longer wanted the item... just wanted to return it like you would at K-Mart. Problem is as the seller, I can only resell it at current market value. Had it sold to the second highest bidder at the time I would have been much better off... real gross.
I no longer sell on eBay.
What a total BS reason. Totally exploitable too. Buy a bunch of fad items from unsuspecting sellers. If the price continues to rise, sell them for a profit. If the price goes down, return them. Or, hell, buy up a boatload, sell what you can for a profit, and return the rest as the fad wanes. Pretty sweet freeroll. You'd think that eBay and/or PayPal would have enough of a clue about these things to not make it so easy.
AFAIC, you should only be able to return something you won at auction if it was materially misrepresented or damaged due to seller's negligence. Half the point of an auction is that it's a final sale. If you want to be able to return your stupid Hatchimals or Fingerlings due to buyer's remorse, buy them from a very forgiving retailer like Walmart or Amazon or whatever.
I've been on the seller side of it for an eBay transaction. I have never initiated it.
Regarding my transaction. It was quite fair. The buyer claimed that the item was not as described... several months after receiving the item. My rebuttal included the positive feedback that the buyer gave me. I actually won the case.
I'll admit I've done this once... but only on Yeezy shoes from Adidas!Exactly... speculate on the price of gold... return if it goes down... total free roll.
Anyone involved may want to post their updates here..
