Just curious how y’all lives where before you discovered PCF. Also for veterans who where on CT way way back. We can all agree our wallets got thinner that’s 1 , and the sickness hit us all. Curious if there was a time if you were more passionate about chipping than now , and what did you do most of the time before even being a chipper.
I discovered this forum and it was subtile at first , but Covid made us all have more time on our hands to be here.

Really interested in hearing some great stories ....

Well, These chips are great, and I understand why everybody want to buy all these beauties, Paulson, CPC, Matsuis...
But if you only buy that you need (well, twice of you need...) and a reasonable prices, life not have to change much.

Answering the question, before PCF I had time to play poker at least...with nasty chips.

True . If you keep everything balanced , and see it like a hobby that it is life don’t have to change much. If you abuse it , you will see the side effects just like with everything in life.

I'm astonished at the number of things I didn't know I needed until I saw or read about them. And let's not forget items that I don't really need but might need later. The inverse relationship in chipland between availability and cost unbelievably powerful.

Twice what I need? Only twice? Surely you jest!

Fine...playing a lot of poker home games with people that didn't care about chips. But I cared, so it was like a little inside joke with me. They are starting to appreciate the quality of the tools a little, but it's more for my enjoyment. Kinda like drinking out of fine glassware. Improves the experience...

Warning*** Ben Book!! Continue at your own risk! Ye be warned!!

Brie and I were very active on Social Media a couple years back but decided it was too much of a distraction so we got rid if it all... we had nothing for a while and I started teaching her to play poker with my 20 year old slugged chips. I wanted to get the family playing again so we upgraded to Monte Carlos 14g slugs and before I even finished that one started hunting and building a 08 Casino Royale set also 14g slugs.

This was before even knowing that there was a chip community. I was picking up that something was weird with so many bids on chips on eBay... I had no idea other people were into collecting chips. Well with the 08 Casino Royale hunt coming up short I started peaking around online and saw a few pictures of what I know now to be @Phantom custom Casino Royale ASM chips, I was hopeful that they weren't customs and somehow I could snag a high denom playable set of those... that never happened. Lol

That lead me to PCF and Brie was also curious about ththe hobby and wanted to participate in something with me as well. I found a small lot of Paulson chips on eBay after hearing everyone here rave, I had played with many in casinos but didn't know that's what they were at the time.

Yup that little 10 - 12 chip stack ruined everything for me!

I saw a picture of the Aces RHC blaze orange $3 chip which quickly became my first love... there were more posts on chip talk that here and we actually tried to join there first but it was at the end of their time. Brie bought me my first 2 racks of Aces (a rack of $5s and a mixed rack of $2s and $3s) we have never looked back.

Brie took an early liking to PCAs and there was a small lot on eBay that a guy in Maryland was selling and we actually drove down and picked them up...

So we were both working on real casino used cash sets, and neither of us played cash! That's how bad this hobby is! Lol

I say it all the time it is hard to remember life before chipping as this is what we do now, washing, oiling, sorting, buying selling. I do know before hand I didn't have money issues and have never been this broke my whole life... and I grew up poor. The sickness is real

@abby99 double what you need huh??

We have never attempted a family photo with all of our chips because I don't have a space large enough in the house to do so. Lmao maybe someday we will move the furniture out of a room and fill it with chips, but that would take a long time.

This hobby offers a complete rollercoaster rode of emotions from the big score! Loosing out on what you needed... saying dibs on a big buy and the realization that now you need to pay for it. All part of your journey... if you are lucky enough to figure out your Grail set and obtain it quickly and leave, good for you. Many of us are just not that way, and even if you do obtain your grail set unfortunately for many of us... even that is not enough. The chips are awesome but the friendships made here mean way more than little round clay discs for us!!

To many more years of this crazy hobby!! I don't miss life before this, this is all we know now, just looking forward to getting back to a poker routine and getting some of our awesome builds on the felt!!

Fellow chipper Ben

Life before PCF? Yes, indeed.

After PCF, though, I have no life anymore. There is only chips.
Thank you for saying the same thing and balancing our word count out to about 20,000 between our two posts!! Lmao

After taking 5 minutes to read mine and 10 seconds to read yours everyone is going to say Jesus Christ Ben! Take lessons and put the damn phone down!! Haha

Such a nice read Ben , and great story you shared. Really happy for you that you and Brie share this great hobby together and looking both at the same things in life. That’s inspiring , not just at chipping but in general.
Totally agree on the rollercoaster thing , and that the ride never stops. Friendships that started here are for sure one of the best , because you share so much passion for the same thing. Nice read ben and don’t stop chipping :)

You must have excellent natural taste, Ben. I really love those too -- still have about 15 racks of them. And they led to the more subtle blue $2s -- about 16 racks of them.

Why, oh why... :cool

Before PCF I had money in my bank account and a set of crappy dice chips. Now I wait for paydays so I can buy something new, and I have ~5000 chips including an 1800 chip spread-level cash set, 1000+ tourny set, 1600+ vintage Burt era diamond-mold chip set, and many more small vintage groups I plan on flipping in the future.

Edit- I forgot about 500 chip casino set I'm building. And there is another vintage set somewhere in the mail. Jeez, look what you people have done to me.

Got any old-school diamond chips to sell?

Many on here are well aware that Ben gets paid on Thursday's... usually my check is spent before noon on Thursday as deals have already been made earlier in the week!! It is getting better... but I still have my bad weeks! Lol

Was around for the very first group buy of Pharoah chips on CT. Migrated here shortly after the start of PCF. Been a hell of a ride. Have owned more sets than I can remember among them, stardust Poker Mansion, GooherBlue GCR, BCC Fun Nites, suicide King Hotstamp BCC, Aquasino, High Roller, Starburst tourney set, Aztar Missouri, THC hostamp JT(my initials), BCC NPlay Clay, hard Rock Paulson Tourney set,and 6000 custom ASM/BCC/Chipco sets. I’m sure I’ve forgotten many others. Oh yeah, ESPN Tilt series BCC chips, FLV, etc etc etc.

Something else I scooped today....

dammit, I think I must be close to 7000 chips in total.:eek::eek::eek:

Ya’ll need some Excel in your life!
Pencil and paper have got me to 38... I have no plans to change. Lol also no US cleaner for chips. Soap, water, magic erasers and nail brushes everyday! Even an old school coffee pot with paper filters. If it's not broken then why try to fix it?

Ya’ll need some Excel in your life!
Not necessarily. With Excel it's too easy to get totals (e.g., number of chips, cash sets, tournament sets, and if you're really courageous, total cost). If you're into blissful ignorance, don't put all your chips in the same closet/cabinet/shelf, etc.). Ask me how I know.
