I know how much everybody here likes polls....:p

Should I refine the inlays using the cartoonish Devil or the more serious, single sided Laughing Devil?

well the angel side comes from a bad guy telling you what you want to hear. Kind of like bluffing or like a silver tongued negranue...which is why in the angel pic he still has his devil tail.

I voted for the laughing devil, for two reasons:
1. The name Silver Tongued Devil, since that bottom image has a smooth-talker face, and the cartoon devils don't have visible tongues; and
2. I think it will print much better at scale. The cartoon images look great on my monitor, where I see them at about 6" in diameter, but when I look at them much smaller (on my phone) they lose a lot. At inlay size I think the larger face will be better.

I get it now. The red tail is hard to see on the "angel" so maybe make it white?

Would it be possible to make the red devil have both eyes open and the angel wink? That would highlight the angel not really being an angel.

Agreed!

too funny. I was actually doing that and making the tail more visible before you typed this.

funny, when I saw the cartoon devil top left, thought to myself, 'fuck, that is so perfect, cannot get better than that...'

but the laughing devil does it, and @fieldsy 's point about how they look at scale cannot be overstated.

amazing design!!! killing it..

I still like the laughing devil, and incidentally I prefer your OP cartoonish ones over the revision with the tongue protruding in front of the teeth. And that’s a good example of something that won’t print well at 7/8”. When viewed at about the size of a quarter on my phone screen, I can’t really see that protruding tongue. At that size it looks like a tooth gap or a printing error.

Still, I really like your artwork overall. You are clearly talented at this.

You really need to print both to size and evaluate. I think that’s an important part of your decision making here.

Whichever way you go this is the best inlay I have seen in quite some time.
That is part of the problem. My printer went to crap and I haven't replaced it yet because I want a laser printer. So I've been asking David at CPC to print and advise. He has told me that everything prints clearly. But yeah, As pointed out small things, especially under the cross hatching on the inlay, will be lost. It's why I'm leaning towards the laughing devil. Maybe the cartoon guy will make a good dealer button option..

So what you’re saying is....

The devil’s in the details?

Seriously I think the laughing devil is downright iconic. I think this could be one of the best inlays ever and the laughing devil is just perfect IMO. The cartoon devil is not bad by any stretch of imagination but I prefer the more serious option.

One thing I do find myself wondering is if the QS watermark is one step too many/too busy.

I typically prefer cartoonish villains, but in this case the laughing devil looks like something that could have been from a 1960s casino. The cartoon looks like something from a restaurant known hot chicken.

Another vote for the silver-tongued laughing devil, fwiw. Larger, clearer, and simpler graphic, plus the fact that it's just so iconic - all four virtues sway me big-time to choose it for the inlay image.

Save the cartoon-ish version(s) for larger applications, like the custom cards and/or buttons (dealer, show'em, re-buy, shut-the-hell-up, dead-rabbit-hunter, etc..).
