Every time I see a new set on an underused mold, I'm drawn to it for a while just because it looks so beautiful and fresh. I'm looking at you guys, PatTheCat and catalyzeme as the most recent users to get CSQ sets and make me lust after that one. But ultimately I fall back to my favorites when looking at my own sets.

So which is your favorite? Obviously the "best" mold will change depending on the design intended for the chip, but for the purposes of this poll, let's assume that we're assessing the looks and feel of a mold when used with the design best suited for it's use. So a nice big inlay on an FDL or a great retro design for the H-mold or a beautiful crest and seal look on the Plain mold.

My rankings in the spoiler tags below so as to not corrupt the voting. Don't look until you vote!

P.S. Due to the limitation on the number of poll options, I merged the Hourglass, Jockey and Plain molds above. If one of those is your favorite, vote for the merged category and post your chosen mold in the thread.

Favorite to least favorite:

Diamond Square
Fleur De Lys
Scroll (still waiting to have them in hand, but LOVE the look)
H-Mold
Horsehead
Circle Square
B-Diamond
Plain
A-Crest
Cards & Dice
Jockey
Hourglass

"A" mold.

It was my first cpc "clay" set. I love the feel, sound, stacking, blah blah blah...........My custom set to celebrate my Anniversary will also be on the "A" mold set. Please J5 get to work damnt!!!!

here are my next few favorites in no special order.

Fleur De Lys
Scroll (still waiting to have them in hand, but LOVE the look)
B-Diamond
Cards & Dice
Hourglass

Scroll mold is WAY up there for me now. I might even put it number 1.

I think Diamond Square is my favorite but Circle Square for the price :) I like the generic ones that can go with any inlay or design, personally. There are some great horsehead/jockey/letter mold sets but the ideas in my own head never go with the molds available.

One of my favorite things about seeing new sets is how often I'm impressed with a mold I'd previously not really cared for.

Gil/AlbinoDragon's Arizona Club set is one of the only custom sets I'd pay for in a heartbeat if it was for sale and it's on the Hourglass mold, which is at the bottom of my personal list. I could say the same for the Three Putt Poker set, though I'm not typically a huge A-mold fan. I could go on, I'm sure.

Point being, kudos to set owners who have visions for a particular mold and to designers for making it happen so well. And obviously as always much thanks to CPC for keeping these options open after many of us had honest fears that these days would be gone by now.

FU jbutler..............I just left cpc site. I'm thinking a sunset design would look great on the scroll mold.............

1. Hourglass
2. Diamond Square
3. Horsehead

I have no use for any of the rest, unless I were to somehow come up with a theme that cries out for one of them.

That's also the problem I have with the Horsehead, but at least I actually like them...

The scroll mold is pimp. I have the labeled color sample set on scroll mold and the feel is as good as the look IMO

I figured out pretty quick I was in the minority when it came to my favorite mold: circle square.

Full disclosure, I have no custom set and have only have played with a few different sets from a few different molds, but from the beginning I liked the way it looked and after the first time playing with a very nice set of them I loved the way they felt and sounded.

Maybe it's just because I have such little experience with these molds and it might change later on, but I feel like such a contrarian because csq is my favorite and scroll is not one of my favorites based on looks alone. The A-mold would have to be my second favorite, with diamond square and hhr as well (huge hitching post fan).

After not much thought I think my top three would be:

CSQ
A mold
Diamond Square

Near the bottom in no particular order for me would be:

Jockey
Scroll
FDL
B diamond

Edit: phone typing, really should read the words that are appearing on the screen rather than trust what keys I think I am hitting.

1. Diamond Square
2. Circle Square
3. A mold

I didn't realize the latter two were that much less expensive.

MD-50, baby!

I like plenty of the other molds but none as much as the MD-50...

Seriously handle them before putting yourself on the hook for a four digit number for chips. Peoples feelings for molds vary widely obviously

I really should. I'm already over the damn budget

Borrow a set. I'm sure somebody would be able to hook you up for shipping and a deposit.

As for me, I'm reserving judgement for a while. I have CSQ, MD-50s and B mold sample sets on the way that I've never handled. The scrolls really did shoot up for me though, after I got the color samples and my two sample sets.

I’ve grown used to the fact that my tastes will change over time. In the beginning, I thought that the Horsehead mold defined ASM chips, and that was the only mold I would ever get from them. Later, after I got some samples of people’s sets, such as Toby’s Black Cat Club, I was blown away by the FDL mold given its grand inlay graphic possibilities. Later, I was drawn back into smaller classic inlays, in the case of MD-50. Then I loved the scroll mold after some color samples from CPC. My interests get stretched all over the place, and I think that’s a lot of fun.

With that said, there are certain molds that I just never liked as much and my opinion haven’t changed:

Roman – too slippery
H-mod – too simple for me
Plain – too plain
Cards & Dice – anti-dice chips?
A & B mold – on fence, don’t dig single letters on molds.

Roman – too slippery.

E&C - sigh...

yeah i chose to do the poll only with molds currently available. E&C would have prob been middle of the pack for me if available and Roman prob near the bottom, but both have their place for sure with the Circus City set for the E&C being the most obvious example of the former and the old Great Warriors set being a good example for the latter.

The primary reason I have a second set of custom chips is because of the MD-50 DIASQR mold. I just had to have it, and at the time it was a limited-time one-time-only (for the second time) pressing. If that doesn't define favorite, then nothing does.

If I did a third set, it would probably be Circle-Square. Or A-crest. Or B-diamond. Or Horsehead. It would depend on the theme, but I've always liked the circle-square mold and I went gaga when I saw the B-Diamond mold. Whatever I choose, if I ever do another set, it will be be on a different mold and it will definitely not be an issue of being second-best.

BTW, this poll is almost cruel. It's like asking a mother which child is her favorite.

E&C - sigh...

^^This. If one of the choices, E&C is clear winner. Blows away every other mold for both looks and feel IMO.

As far as the available molds, A-mold, B-mold, H-mold, HHR are right up there - I went with the B-mold just edging out the others based on the best combo of look/feel/sound (each of the other 3 is just a LITTLE behind in one of those areas.)

Jury's still out on the scroll mold. I have the Armory sample set, but waiting on my Rounders set to arrive to firm up my opinion. Initial impression is it's right up there with the above as far as handling, but a bit too "generic" looking for my taste. Also the jockey mold has never really had a fair sampling either (seems like a fine mold, but themes that it would fit are so narrow...)

I won't rank order the rest because I don't want to be excommunicated based on where MD-50 would fall on my list. ;)

You're not alone, brutha - I probably wouldn't be excommunicated for where the MD-50 falls (it's still pretty high) - but I DEFINITELY would be for the FDL.

I don't know if I can pick because they all have their PRO's, very little CON's. General thoughts I think I prefer the generic but when the theme fits with the chip it's a home run! But the best part is we have the options. Now I'm going to have to really study the samples when I get home but I know my wife liked the Diamond Square the best (she has expensive tastes) and my mom stated that she like the Circle Square best (she loves thrift shopping) but neither knew the pricing we all just found it funny. I haven't and don't plan on letting my kids look at the chips for a few year as they are only 2 & 3 so they get to play with the samples from when I started my research over a year ago (Milano's, Poker Knights, Scroll, Nexgen, Mint). But I do think I want to get an Heirloom set that uses the B-Mold as our last name begins with a B.

BGinGA shares your disdain for the FDL. This came up on the way to your house somewhere before Buzzard Branch

Some of the ones lists as favorites are my least favorites, but as was said before, there are some great sets made with them. Although, I have yet to see a great set on the cards and dice mold. My favorite, bar none is the MD-50, closely followed by the H-mold. I'm not a fan of large inlays because I like more chip in my chips and less of not chip, so the limitations on these two isn't a factor.

Cards & Dice – anti-dice chips?

This describes me perfectly. I am so turned off by suits on chips in any form that it always surprises me when I see something I like that incorporates them in the design. After learning a little about poker chips, and more importantly the craftsmanship and quality that is miles above anything injection molded, I have some resentment built up in me from the dice chips. lol I just picture myself somehow having a conversation with a real chipper a few years ago and proudly proclaiming that I "had some really nice chips we play with back at my house, same weight as the casinos..." as they smile and roll their eyes. Getting into the black hole that is chips I felt like not only had I been missing out on something that it turns out I really enjoy, but that I had also fallen for a marketing ploy (11.5 grams!!!) hook line and sinker without even considering actually looking at the chips I played with at the casinos.

I love dice chips for what they are, they get a lot of people playing home games, but I don't want to be reminded of them when I look at my chips now.
