BGinGA shares your disdain for the FDL. This came up on the way to your house somewhere before Buzzard Branch

Yay, I'm not alone either! Although I wouldn't call it disdain - it's still 400000000 times better than china clays. Any CPC chip is awesome - even Cards & Dice. :)

I've always been a circle square fan. Love seeing more sets come out on it.

Interestingly my feelings changed a bit over time. FDL used to be further down the list but after shuffling stacks of them its moved up. The scroll mold is nice but the sample set I have feels slightly slippery. Hard to tell with only a sample set how well they handle.

(E&C) :(

I have to get my hands on a Scroll sample before voting (just waiting on the Rounders sample). Until then, it's a toss-up between Circle Square and H-Mold.

I'd say top three for me are MD50, Scroll, and Circle Square

Next tier is HHR, FDL and B mold.

HHR is awesome from a tactile perspective I just demote it some because I don't think it fits with every set

Elephant and Crown

Horsehead.....would be first if the heads didn't look soooo f'n much like cows

Fleur des Lis for the oversized inlay option.

Scroll for the look, and 43mm option. Would be untouchable if this mold had an outer ring.

Dunno, must be some kind of divorce threshold, best I can tell.

So far, the overwhelming majority favorite is the MD-50. It begs the question, why does CPC call it one of their less popular molds? I'm guessing it's the premium you pay for it. But given the money paid for custom sets, it doesn't seem like a heck of a lot more for for your favorite. Its a shame that it's such a difficult mold to work with.

I know I've said it before, but it's funny how much chip tastes can change over time. When I was looking for my first set of "real" chips, I hated the Pharaoh China clays because of the larger inlay and less chip face, so I went with the Milanos. Owning a set of the GCOPs changed everything. I love the FDL mold because of it's simplicity and the larger area for inlays. I also really like that the recessed surface has no cross-hatching, so the inlays are super smooth.

The smooth inlay area is actually one of the things I dislike on the fdl.

Actually you were the first. I made it second and he informed me you had already made it.

jbutler was indeed in first

I had to look up his Address. I still don't get it....

It's because I live in one of the AyrSHIRE counties. I also have large hairy feet and a penchant for pilfering

I have played poker a fair amount with the A mold, H mold, Nevada & Diecar mold (almost the same in my opinion), Roman mold, and textured No mold. I love every one of these molds and the chip sets made on them. I can say nothing bad about any of them, except maybe a few spinners on the Roman's.

I've seen your chip set collection. You sir are a chip whore (compliment all the way).

Theme is my primary concern for mold choice. So in a vacuum the choice becomes a little more difficult. So my rational from best to worst would obviously change with the individual design.

As mentioned before (and the reasoning behind my selection of it) the FDL for it's simple mold and large inlay option is my BFF.

I'm also out on the fringe by liking the B-Diamond, but it needs a "B" theme (Bart's Bowl-o-Rama). If they replaced the "B" with a "Z", my Zombies probably would have wound up on that mold instead.

MD-50 is the champion for classic themes. I also love the H mold for a classic looking set, but the "H" is a little off-putting as a letter if it doesn't fit the theme (not as off-putting as the "B" though). I would love to make another set on the MD-50, but I have 4 sets now, a 5th on the way, and I only host 6-8 games a year. :(

Scroll Mold is a pretty solid option for practically any set, stellar for any aquatic theme, and gives you the over-sized chip option.

Circle Square is my true neutral. It fits anything, and you cannot go too wrong with SQINCIRC.

I haven't played with the plain mold yet, but it feels like an unfinished chip. If CPC offered an even bigger (giant - 1 3/8" ) inlay option, it would become a go-to chip for commemoratives.

Perhaps it's because I've spent too much of my life working with my hands, but I do not really swoon over the tactile feature of the chips, so I don't like the often overused HHR - but when it fits the theme (Hitching Post, Club Courage Twin Spires) it's so awesome, it is sploosh-worthy. Unfortunately, people flock to this mold. Horses play as much of a part in poker as dice do. At least you could claim chips are used in dice games - I've never bet on the ponies with chips...

The Hourglass is just too busy for my taste, cluttering up the outside of the chip. Yet, it has it's themeing potential.

What the hell - that's a Jockey? I thought it was a guy taking a dump.

I want to love cards and dice, but it is too reminiscent of the cheap slugged chips. It's like marrying a supermodel, than insisting she wear a loose-fitting, face covering hijab.

I do not like the A-Crest. If it fit a theme, I would obviously consider it, but it reminds me of a cheap inferior business, like "AAAA Bail bonds", or "AAAAA E-Z Loans". The over-sized A-mold just dwarfs the inlay, and puts "AAAAAAA Car Mechanic" in bold type. Look, putting in a bunch of A's does not make it better, m'kay?

Disclaimer: I have yet to see many CPC sets that made me want to puke, so if you built a set on one of my "lesser" molds, you probably have managed to buck the trend.

I really like the CSQ mold, followed by the MD-50. I don't really like any of the molds with letters on them unless they fit the theme. I'm intrigued by the plain textured mold, but I don't know if I'd actually make a set on it. They all fall short of the SCROWN though. TRKs are tops for me.

I bought a set on the Roman mold about 15+ years ago, and didn't really like them. I just assumed that all of ASMs chips were like that at the time. Glad I've since learned otherwise. I wonder what it is about different molds that cause some to be more slippery than others. My Roman mold chips were so slippery, the stacks would fall over if you bumped the table. It was pretty annoying. I actually ended up getting rid of them on Craigslist a few years back in favor of some super diamond plastic chips I bought that I actually like more than the ASM Romans. Sounds like blasphemy now, haha, but that's what I did :)

Not sure how I missed this poll first time around, but agree with @abby99 that it's Sophie's Choice.

I very much like the feel of certain molds, but the look and how it fits a theme make a good first impression (see wut I did there?).

I used to think the only mold I'd go with would be FDL but after having all the molds in hand it's CSQ all the way. They just feel so nice and solid and the design looks great. FDL feels kind of light and just didn't feel right to me in person. I do love the giant inlay but that's about it. No texture on the inlay is kind of a deal breaker for me too.

Note there are plenty of FDL sets I love and I don't dislike FDL, it's just not my favorite anymore.

Shortly I'll own two FDL set's :)

I've been studying the molds. The cards and die mold is really growing on me. I hated it initially. Now I catch myself doing mockups on it.
