Why do I want to buy more chips? (1 Viewer)

Me 5 years ago: $300 is as much as I would ever consider paying for freaking poker chips

Me now:

Good luck with your sickness. If you figure out the cure please let me know!

Im in the same freakin boat! I keep finding excuses to build new sets or reasons to murder some chips into something new as well. I’m sick

Pictures?
This is my current setup. I need to count my chips to see exactly how many I have. I ended up buying extras to fill gaps in the racks cause the used chips can fit more than 20 in a barrel. The pinks are going to be my $1,000 chips once I get the gear labels. I really only needed a couple of barrels, but I ended up getting a whole rack, because you know, a rack is better than two barrels. The wood racks in the back hood 50 chips each, so the stacks of 5’s are about 40 chips each. It’s a craps coffee table, and these days, I’m usually playing by myself

I originally had the HSI orange $1,000 chips, but I hated the 43mm, so I got rid of them and went with those links instead. I like them way better

I have a complete used HSI set, just the way I like it. I actually like used, as it reminds me of being in the casino. But I keep finding myself looking at more chips. I don’t “need” anymore, as I don’t play poker, so I don’t need a tourney set, micro cash set, etc. But for some reason I just keep looking and wanting. I have the feeling that I’m going to end up with thousands of chips I can’t use. How does someone stop the sickness?
Chips are like art. Each combination of colors, spots, and inlays can excite and inspire. So the utility is different than, say, a toaster.

I fell into a similar hole with watches. It was getting expensive and I recognized what I was doing. So I stopped reading blogs celebrating watches and hunting the next piece of art. There are a couple of moves I’ll make someday, but for now I’m enjoying what I have.

If it wasn’t for me realizing what happened with watches, I suspect I would be buying and pursuing countless sets. Instead, I have set specific targets and limits for myself.

There are some gorgeous sets here and I’ve mocked up a ton. It’s enjoyable, and I still  when seeing great chips. I’ll just admire them from here.

Keep ‘em coming!

I've said this many times over the years, but I finally have some understanding of women and shoes. Meaning, until I discovered poker chips I never got how some women seem to live for shoe shopping. They could spend hours just looking, holding, trying them on and such. Then the purchase of those shoes, despite not even wearing them would bring them so much joy. The order made, the anticipation of the delivery, etc. They take them out and just look at them. All fits so perfectly.:)

I’ve already been struggling to resist the whole plaques thing. I have zero use for them, but want them oh so bad. So far I’ve held off, as I just haven’t been able to rationalize it yet.

I blame Hobbyphilic for all this. It’s his YouTube videos that somehow popped up on my YouTube feed that I watched that led me here and started this madness. I’m considering buying a roulette wheel just because I want roulette chips!!!!

how many pairs of shoes are enough?
how many purses are enough?
how many guns are enough?
how many fishing poles are enough?
the list can go on & on!!!!!!!!!

The plaque thing is easy to solve the itch for as long as you don't make it complicated. I am guessing from the picture of the table that a $25 chip is your max chip. Now I know you have no real use for them, but hear me out. Go up one denomination from your big chip - if it is the 25 I am guessing that next denom is 100 - and order ten simple easy plaques like these https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/ben-franklin-100-plaque/ this lets you scratch the plaque itch without busting the bank.

What do it mean by $25 is my max chip? I have a rack of $100, 3 barrels of $500, and one rack of $1,000.

Sorry. I was going by the picture and I saw green but not black. Same rules apply though. Just find a $5000 plaque you like and only buy ten of them. It lets you scratch that itch and not empty your wallet at the same time.
