I have a complete used HSI set, just the way I like it. I actually like used, as it reminds me of being in the casino. But I keep finding myself looking at more chips. I don’t “need” anymore, as I don’t play poker, so I don’t need a tourney set, micro cash set, etc. But for some reason I just keep looking and wanting. I have the feeling that I’m going to end up with thousands of chips I can’t use. How does someone stop the sickness?

Let's be honest, since you're already plotting your cash and tourney sets (smart move, btw) you might as well start dipping your toes into the wonderful ocean we call poker. That way, you'll not only feel justified in purchasing these sets, you'll also get to personally play and enjoy them.

(look, I really don't know what you expect outta this post. this entire forum is awash with enablers ;) )

Because mooaaar chips is a great way to spend one’s hard earned cash. I have been ”done” several times but keep coming back for more. No one still here will be able to help you with this

Without knowing the specifics of your case, it sounds like you didn't get the love you needed as a child, and are trying to fill that emotional void through a behaviour which provides a temporary dopamine hit and false sense of satisfaction and fulfilment. This is the same underlying issue that drives many addictions including food/alcohol/drugs/shopping.

But buying more chips just papers over the symptom; it doesn't address the root cause. The only clinically proven way to stop this vicious cycle is to stop buying chips, and find yourself a Lakeside Inn rubber ducky instead. Only then can your soul be made whole.

Let me get this straight, you are not playing poker, and not planning to start??? Are you using the chips for anythingelse?

FOMO: Anxiety that an exciting or interesting event may currently be happening elsewhere, often aroused by posts seen on social media.

If you wanna control your poker chip FOMO, this forum is just about the worst place on the Internet for you to frequent.

There's a very thin line between FOMO and appreciation, though. I live vicariously through those of you with deeper wallets than me. I look at those HSI sets you folks post on here and just salivate.

Since you do not play and you have it “just the way you like it”, I am curious to hear about the specifics of the breakdown.

I don't play poker either (can't find people in my town that does) but my friends and family do play blackjack so we use them for that.
I can relate to that. Would be interesting if the op uses the chips for somethingelse. I dont think i would buy chips if i had absolutely no use for them
