I'm currently at something like 12 sets (you might have a problem when you are no longer sure). All sets have edgespots. While I aspire to have something of each type of chip (ABS, Ceramic, China Clay, Hotstamps, etc...), solids are the only chip type I do not care to own.
That said, there are a couple of compelling solid sets out there. The Sunsets which are more like small pictures in a simple clay frame, and the rustic Hitching Post come to mind. Those are well-themed though, and spots would detract from that theme.
The rest of the time, spots help players make better estimations of opponents' stacks, add an extra layer of security against dirty stacks, and basically look intentional.
