I think it's me (PCF is less interesting lately) (1 Viewer)

I'm very new to the hobby relatively speaking but I'm past the "kid in a candy store" phase of grabbing whatever is pretty that I can and at this point have a very good idea of what I want and am looking for.

Honestly speaking, after nabbing one of my personal grail sets with a stroke of luck and good timing over the last couple of days, I may be taking a break from the hobby when I am able to acquire some CDI '98 $100's and $500's to finish out that tournament set.

Reason being, there is nothing else out there currently that I would want or be interested in. The boat chips are way overinflated in price and the ones that I would want (ESPT) are the most expensive of all. I don't see any circumstance in which I'll ever be able to afford them barring that I win the lottery.

Unless another Paulson NAGB comes along and someone is nice enough to cut me in on it for a reasonable cost, or Jim comes along with some new THC molded offerings in a new Chip Room sale, I think I am done building sets until at least next year.

I was thinking about another CPC set, but my bankroll towards it got wiped out by the aforementioned recent grail set acquisition. Early 2021 I would say is the earliest case scenario of when I'd place that order due to cost and frankly lack of incentive.

I've been feeling the same way....my last substantive post was June 18th......
I think a lot of it has been COVID related, with no home games, no WSOP this year, no CCA convention............nothing to really post about....... :(
When your only shopping is groceries and hardware stores, not much to talk about there either.
I even added the Politics thread and that didn't add anything either.......
You're definitely not alone though!

Good points, Chad. And when you add in that chips are a luxury/collector item, a ton of people have lost jobs and expendable income, and with a possible recession on the horizon (read: possible drastic drop in value of collectibles/fine art), it makes sense that interest/activity in our little hobby is waning a bit.

In the meantime, here's some pr0n of the chips I got at this year's convention:

As a new member (joined in January), I found my energy level for PCF content extremely high in March-May, peaking during the early COVID lockdown weeks. The amount of help from long time (and even more recent) members on here was really refreshing and, even as I'm sure I asked the same newbie questions that everyone else asked, the fact that members still answered them thoughtfully, that went a long way towards increasing my interest in chipping.

For me a lot of the recent downturn in "energy" feels like it's related to COVID burnout and being frustrated at not being able to enjoy the summer (including live poker and all that entails). I feel like my main poker group chat is also in a serious down turn over the past 4-6 weeks, and in a way that makes sense. The world is changing dramatically, so some of it might be an existential feeling that whatever hobby we are immersed in just isn't as important at the moment, even as we still have a deep love for it. Also, while "working from home" and playing online was initially kind of exciting, even under the circumstances, it is now just routine and some in the community are losing too much on the digi-felt to keep participating (online poker for me has been going great, but I feel the downswings all around me and that is a part I really dislike about the game).

I think that when things open up (2021??) and we can safely play live and visit casino's and go on roadtrips and all of the rest... that our energy for online forums like PCF will return as well. Obviously for some of the old-timers here, there is more at play than just COVID and broader world events but it's just a stressful time for a lot of us (job security, health concerns, not seeing family regularly). Personally, I have also spent soooo much $$$ here over my first 6 months that I just can't look at all the classifieds anymore so that's another real factor :( .

I was supposed to play my first ever WSOP in Vegas this year so that's been depressing as well. Instead, it's a weekend of camping out in Jersey with the in-laws to grind the online slate, but it doesn't compare.

Anyway, just another new member stating that, while I agree with the general sense of a downturn, I still appreciate how much time and effort everyone here continues to put into PCF. Those who are feeling less inspired or maybe even a little burnt out, don't feel like you need to shoulder the responsibility - trust that others will step up and fill the void. It's fine to focus on life outside of chipping for a few months and come back refreshed and energized!

I’ve been a member for ~4.5 years and this forum has been extremely helpful and informative on a significant number of fronts including...

cash vs. tournament structures
NL vs. PL vs. Limit
starting stacks
number of players
set breakdowns
mixed games (@abby99 ) / dealer choice
buy ins and rebuys / stakes
kill / half kill
card setups
tables
table toppers
dealer buttons
and of course the chips
manufacturers
materials
molds
spots and spot progression
colors
inlays

The list goes on and on. But now that I’ve figured all of that out (tried and tested) and my home game is exactly how I want it, along with the fact that I’m satisfied with my current sets/singles, tables, toppers, buttons, cards, etc..., I now find myself coming back daily for only 2 main reasons.

The first is the classifieds. But the problem with this is that my chipping budget is limited, combined with the fact that if you’re not on the minute something good is posted you miss out anyway.

The second is the pr0n of completed sets. But the problem with this is the pure lack of good pr0n. And I’m talking about the @RainmanTrail / @kmccormick100 type of pr0n where some effort is actually put into it.

So I too find myself a bit bored, but I still keep coming back, hopeful for good future content.
