I Quit My Job To Play Poker AMA (3 Viewers)

What do you eat at the tables?

We can only eat at the two private tables in the high limit room, no eating on the main floor. And even if I have the option to eat at the table I prefer to take a 15-20 minute break from the grind and just enjoy my meal in the snack area, call the wife and give her an update, etc

Generally I have a salad with chicken that I either make or buy at the casino. Sometimes a sandwich

Sometimes I won't have a real dinner and will just have fruit or yogurt with granola.

Wife got me a Brita filtered water bottle so I can refill that instead of having to keep ordering waters from the waitress and keep tipping out. #Frugal #EveryPennyCounts

Do you tip differently now that your income is wholly dependent?

No, I always felt that service staff deserved to be tipped when their incomes depend on it.

That being said, I'm not the guy tossing red and green birds either. I'm tipping $1 for pots won, $1 to staff at the snack counter, $1 to the waitress, $1 to the cashier at the window

Have you begun to experience hemorrhoids from your time 'in the saddle', yet?

My sessions don't usually go over 10 hours, usually less. Plus I take walks through the casino as breaks to clear my head and keep the blood flowing

I avoid elevators and escalators the majority of the time and take stairs up and down from the garage and within the casino

Besides monetary gain or potential loss, why do you play more than you need to?

Well, I have a monthly nut I need to make on a consistant basis. But there's no guarantee I'll make that each month.

As we saw in February, I took a loss for the month. So some months (like December) I may win double or more my monthly nut, which helps when I have a losing month or one where I don't quite hit the goal

The more I can win, the better positioned I am to handle variance, deal with missing a week of income because of the flu, etc

They have these heavy bags for me to beat on if I've suffered a bad session which will help a lot.

Hopefully the next time you guys see me at a meetup I'll be swoll!

Do you keep track of your tips? And if so how much have you tipped out this year?

I do, and $1,177 is the number. That is a rough estimate, but should be fairly close (since September when I started)

That includes dealers, waitresses, brush, cage and poker snackbar (but not restaurants)

Using a punching bag in the gym is the equivalent to wearing a facemask, hoodie and sunglasses at a $0.25/$0.50 game.

Stick to the weights lol.

@Anthony Martino, has coronavirus lessened the numbers at all? Is it harder to find your normal game?

This past Saturday the room was a bit slower than usual

Monday they had 1k high hands every 30 minutes and packed them in (37 tables of 46 running when I looked, but I was at the plo game at Luckys rather than the hard rock)

And Tuesday they were doing 5k highest high hand every 3 hours from noon to midnight in addition to regular high hands every 30 minutes and the room didn't get as busy as I expected but still plenty of action

Wednesday was fairly expected to be slower than usual, coming off the two high hand promo days, but I still found plenty of PLO action

I was off Thursday but saw 2 different PLO games running at hard rock and 1 at luckys

I have a free slot tournament today plus it's friday so...poker. will be interesting to see since the panic seems to have started between wed-thurs at some point. But given PLO seemed to run fine yesterday I expect I'll still find action

I just flew into Milwaukee. Airport traffic was extremely light. Security took under a minute (or however long it takes you to take off your shoes, etc.). Once in Milwaukee, we played about an hour at the Potawatomi Casino. They had quite a few tables going, including a Big O game, multiple tables of 13, and a 2-5. This was around Noon-2pm. It was as I had expected from checking out the Bravo app weeks before my trip.

Assuming Milwaukee isn't a tourist destination, and from the table chatter, I took most of the players to be local / regulars. I imagine games in Tampa will be the same. Degens gonna degen, but the tourists are probably going to thin out.

If @Anthony Ferguson makes most of his money off tourists, this might be a tougher weekend to make nut.

Our player pool is much smaller than hold em, and fortunately for me consists of more locals who keep coming back

While I do see unknown faces show up, I encounter more of the same faces over and over. There are a number of guys who own businesses, are retired, etc that just love the gamble of PLO and keep coming back to it

You should take a trip to Cincinnati. They have been playing a lot of PLO with some huge stakes. 50/100 earlier today and have seen a waitlist for 100/200 before.

It looks like crowds are down some as there is usually around 15 tables going on a Friday/Saturday

Definitely saw a decline in traffic for a Friday at the Hard Rock in Tampa. We still got the 2/5/10 and the 1/2 PLO going, but were missing some faces.

And 50/100 PLO is just "a bit" outside my bankroll (now selling action!!!) :p

Ohio Governor said all casinos in the state have to close by midnight tonight until further notice, but they said at least until the end of the month. I guess that is why you always need a contingent plan.

So on Saturdays I usually go in for the afternoon so I can have lunch at home with Jenn

Right now checking the Bravo app there are a whopping 8 tables going out of 45+ in the room, no.PLO running and only 3 people on the interest list

May not wind up heading down today. We were able to get our groceries without much issue this morning. We have well water and a foltration system for the house plus use a brita water pitcher so no concern there

The toilet paper was wiped out but we had found a deal last time and already had extra so we should be ok

But yeah, people are fucking nutso with the panic shopping
