Hey everyone! id like some input on ideas to refresh my “poker room”. The current paint job and ceiling light combo makes me physically ill whenever we play. I’ve decided i’m going to repaint and try to make it more modern / vibey. I’ve never ever dined in there so i’m probably going to get rid of the kitchen table and throw legs on the poker table. I plan on doing matching chairs as well. I’m just seeing if anyone has any good ideas paint + lighting wise. Finally upgraded to a quality set of chips, now it’s time for the poker room upgrade before summer! This is how we currently play, with a lamp and christmas lights. 😭

If you could find a dealer, I would spin the table, the dealer should focus on the game and let more players see the TV, also add another TV.

I would hang a brighter light and go with a darker shade for the walls.

Fortunately for both @DNV and myself, we only live about an hour apart. He will get to see my poker room live real soon. I love the light boxes for an extremely inexpensive way to spruce up your poker room. @Grimace did a great job making my pair of customs. I also did a custom neon sign and built a bar when I got back into hosting. We don't even drink, but it's a fantastic place to lay out a food spread buffet style at dinner break.

Is this going to be 100% a poker room all the time? If not I wouldn’t give it a poker theme. Just spruce it up. Paint, crown molding. New window treatments.

A large area rug may look nice under the table and make the room sound better

If the table isn’t going to be moved a nice set of wooden legs or a base would definitely class it up with nice chairs. Just saw these on BBO

Well even then… just making it look like a nice living room will change the ambiance and make it feel better to play in. I’d go with warm tones and some framed pictures on the wall. Don’t fell you need a poker theme….unless that’s what you want.

What’s making you “feel ill” is likely the how sterile the room is. Make is a bit darker and warmer and it will feel more comfortable to be in for hours on end. It not uncommon for my games to go 5-7 hours 😬

that’s usually how long our games run as well

Someone posted these lights on here and I really liked how they looked in his post. Here is the link to that.

They gave a nice look on their poker table, and the lights can be raised or lowered.
I got them and everyone loves them. They aren't fancy or expensive, but they do look cool with the right setting. My hot tip is to get 2 orders for 2 lights. You will want the extra pulley included for the first light as well. GL.

Is the ceiling fan a necessity? If not, I'd suggest a pool table light to hang over the table.

Other than that, colors are subjective but I'd probably do something like navy and gray accent walls.

Get a throw rug to put under the table to keep the table from sliding.

As to the table itself - is the dining room table underneath a necessity? If not, I might suggest putting some Hafele folding legs (or Gorilla legs if you need the extra support).

Other than that, lose the xmas lights and maybe install some accent LEDs? Maybe some darker curtains?

May I suggest a 1970s NYC mob hang out theme…some wood paneling, asbestos tile on the floor, and an industrial looking Iight hung low over the table? 🤔. Smoke machine in the corner…since no one smokes anymore 🤣

Actually, when I was in my 20’s, me and two buddies rented and older house that had a basement finished like this …likely in the 50’s or 60’s. It had a very similar vibe 🤣

Main upgrade would definitely be nice, comfy chairs! If you're not into the DIY project of installing table legs, you could grab a barrington table from Walmart/Costco and throw on a topper - on sale, barringtons are around $120-150. More lamps and some custom neon signs/chip displays would also spruce up the room :cool

I would really like better chairs for my home game. I have everything else in such good shape.
