Friday the 13th, the big day (4 Viewers)

Good luck!!! I’m a big fan of “just doing it” and if it feels uncomfortable you are probably on the right track. Besides, who’s to say you never work with the ponies again???

Machine shop sounds cool, I would love to have some of those skills.

Well...well. :cool

My first wife had a similar story. Grew up in Mass. spending all her non-school time on a Morgan farm (working, competing, and breeding). After we married and she graduated from college and got a job, it was all horses -- quarterhorse, thoroughbreds, Dutch Warmbloods; 3-day and dressage, first up in NJ and then for 15 years in MD (Gaithersburg, Poolesville, Frederick, etc.) Every non-work minute was the horse world.

That involvement made my auto-racing hobby look minor by comparison -- I spent as much time pulling a horse trailer to shows, walking horses, tacking them up, and reading dressage tests as I did pulling my own car trailer to the track.

And while the horse world is in many ways very pleasant, it's also very insular. It sucks you in. It was so consuming that eventually we grew apart, and divorced.

So while I don't know you and Ben personally, I want to congratulate you on broadening your horizons, and having the courage to do something completely new. I hope everything looks a bit different, maybe a little bit more interesting.

Best of luck in the new job...

Thank you!!!

I agree and it may be uncomfortable at first but that means I'm learning something new! I hope to learn alot! I may have ponies in my future, at least I hope!!

Thanks for sharing Larry! The horse world can definitely consume you, and all of your time and funds lol sorry to hear of your divorce, but sadly that's common in the horse environment. Grateful you are happy now!
Looking forward to broadening my knowledge and experiences!!

Brie, thanks for sharing and good luck with your new endeavor! That is a big career change/shift, but hopefully it'll be a good opportunity.

Also, hearing "machine shop" reminded me of the video T_Chan posted yesterday from the Mythbusters guy. If you haven't seen it, check it out here:

(He's got other videos on his youtube channel showing him actually making/building things in his machine shop. The video on poker chips above doesn't show much of the machine shop itself, though.)

Thank you! And thank you for sharing the clip! Epic! I've seen some of his videos before, he has quite the set up of tools and toys!

New challenges are scary but exciting at the same time. Best wishes!

The best career decision I made was the leave the company that I spent twenty years at and do something different. I gained lots of experience, and it made me more well rounded. I am sure that five years from now you will say the same. Best of luck to you and Ben.
