Finally Launched a PLO VLOG (1 Viewer)

I applaud the effort, but that was savagely boring.

You shouldn't be showing your opponents actions in real time, because your viewer has to sit through several seconds of nothing.

Maybe watch a few of the better vloggers and borrow their recap style. It needs to be more snappy.

I agree with this, I need to cut out some of the fluff in the hand replays to keep the pace interesting

Also, any vloggers you'd recommend I try to emulate?

Well honestly I've no clue what to do, and you are doing a much better job than I could manage.

But I've watched a lot over the years and my favourite were always Brad Owen and neeme. Matt Vaughan seems more a similar style to what I think you are going for, and he does quite a few from online play, so maybe check him out.

I enjoy Brad and Andrew as well. Haven't watched Matt, will check him out for reference

I don’t watch many streams or YouTube’s but I would find a way to change the background.

Still enjoyed it and Goodluck on it!

I found this, felt his background was really distracting, the hand being played too small on mobile to see well

But I have some ideas on increasing the pace of the hands I show, which will allow me to fit in more content next time

I agree with this. There is something gained from seeing how long they take to decide, but it's outweighed greatly by the occurrence of dead air. You can just tell the audience if it was an extraordinarily long time (although I doubt that's the case online).

Also, the portrait table graphics in landscape video mode is not the best use of screen real estate. I watched on my phone and the table graphics were so low res that they were unreadable (but kudos to you for recapping the play).

Also, Ram-punt always does a session win/loss at the end of his play in his recap. Always fun to see if you crush or get crushed for the session.

Yeah, I'll be adjusting the replay clips from the tables to cut out the dead time and move the pace of the action along. Unfortunately the hand replays from this site only come in portrait mode, they have no landscape option.

I've found a number of hand replayers online, but they all seem to be designed for use with copying and pasting hand histories from other online poker sites in order to utilize them.

I'm also creating the content to my screen size (3440 x 1440) which may be part of the problem as well. Maybe if I create the content in 1080p instead it will help make things bigger and easier to view.

Right now I've just captured hands across multiple sessions to share. But I do want and probably need to move towards a single session VLOG with results as I progress.

As far as the green screen thing. I'm probably going to turn my computer around to face the wall it's against right now and see how that looks, think it will provide a better background

Thanks for sharing. Solid play! You picked some good hands to review and had some good commentary as well.

As for ways to improve it going forward, I agree with some of the posts above. Get a green screen for the background, speed up the replayer, and find a layout that shows the cards better. Ideally a full screen replayer view with your video as an overlay or something like that. But it's a good start overall. Keep it up!

@Anthony Martino I completely disagree with this, Not saying a slight speeding up of the opponents action wouldn't be a tiny improvement, but that's what, maybe 30-60 seconds out of the entire video? It's inconsequential. Your explanations of the hands and your delivery style are what makes this interesting and valuable to me. Please, PLEASE don't try to emulate the styles of some other vloggers who are far too overly animated. If @Perthmike is looking for that style of entertainment, there are plenty of others out there for him to watch. I'm not watching your video to be entertained, I'm watching it to learn.

Dammit man, I hate it when mommy and daddy fight!

I don't intend to be over the top as far as my delivery. I watch Lex Poker and he will be like "I'm dealt pocket Aces, the BEST starting hand possible" and I just roll my eyes because he's trying to pad the video with meaningless statements and fluff

Decent vlog, especially for your firsts. Thoughts for improvement I had while watching:

1) Echo feedback on maximizing the poker layout. As is was really tough to read

2) And then also might want to do some very quick intro/outro into the session If it was live you might start with a quick (like 10-15 seconds max, total) casino entry shot/cage buy in shot. Outro you want a few seconds to rack up and cash out.

You’re stuck with online for now, so maybe the table selection? Or you prepping your desk with beverages and tissues (for the bad beat tears). Quick little stuff like that

3) Spicier clickbait title will get you more exposure

But he's funny as hell, so there's that.

Also, he agrees with me that suited connectors never loses.

I enjoy his content for sure, even if he is..............ewwww, canadian.

Yeah, unfortunately if I want to film anything live I'd have to drive a good 3-4 hours in one direction to a room that would permit it. As far as table selection online, I'm part of a private club so there's a 3/6, a 5/10 and a 10/20 table (sometimes) and if they fill up sometimes another table of a similar stake might open up. But generally there isn't much opportunity to table select, there'll be 2-3 games running at a time of differing stakes and you try to get a seat.

I think only one time was the lineup pretty poor (myself and 4 other solid players with only three fish in the mix) But generally I either have the fish to myself or there's 1-2 other solid players in the mix only, so the games have been pretty nice.

If I film tissues at my desk it's going to look like they're for something else besides my tears lol.

I'll work on some spicier titles of the VLOG moving forward, as well as tossing a hashtag for #Poker or #PLO to help it gain some more traction.

If all these nice fancy words mean it’s unwatchable on a phone, I agree.

Otherwise, not bad. I wouldn’t not watch you.

I found PokerPoise and just noticed Boski uses it to showcase hand histories from live events

Will be a bit more work to manually input all the action, but will certainly be much better for the viewer
