Chips that everyone else likes but just don’t do it it for you… and go (3 Viewers)

Solids or hot stamps, put them together only gets worse for me.
I know people love them but been in the set collecting game for a long time now and still have not warmed up to them.
Also brown chips in general do not do it for me. I do not love over sized labels much either although if the rest of the chip is great I can probably deal with it.
But that is the beauty, to each their own. It is fine to have your own preference just do not put others down for their preference.
All my dislikes are gold for others and that is great.
You probably wouldn’t like these gold hot stamped solids then huh

CDI98s.

Don’t know why they are so hyped. I bought into the hype, had a huge minty set.

Let go without any hesitation once I saw in person, how I didn’t like them for the ridiculous cost. The jagged texted numbers and shabby looking label are horrendous and ugly. Not sure why they are so popular.

I don’t miss my set one bit.

i absolutely love the PCR set except for this chip; i hate it for some reason that i've never quite been able to put my finger on:

I've never understood the love for the PCRs or the WTHCs. At least the WTHCs have shaped inlays, but otherwise, I've always just found them to be plain ol' ugly.

I feel like their popularity is a hold over from when they were much cheaper. The fact that they were cheap paulsons in quantity, some of which even had shaped inlays, made them a great option. At the current cost they’ve gotten out of hand, especially for some of the denominations.

Maybe the Majestics ruined it for you?

Anyway, I’ll jump on the PCR bandwagon for this thread because they check a couple of bad boxes for me. The first is the mold. I’ve never handled the suits mold, though I’ve read the tend to be slippery. But visually, I don’t like them at all. They’re just kind of ugly to me, and sort of on the nose. Like the suits indicate that we’re supposed to use them to play cards? Thanks chips.
And speaking of cards - “Private Card Room?” Cool name bro.
And finally, I just don’t care for edge spot chips with hot stamps. I think solids look great with hot stamps, and they’re both the cheaper options. Chips with edge spots are fancy but hot stamps are budget. These things have an identity crisis.

But yeah, for me this edge spot is forever ruined by the Majestics

I never was on board the PCR train either, even back when they were first offered. I really did like the WTHC set but it was too expensive so I went with the Paulson mold NPS instead. Doh!

there is irony here. i sold off my PCR set ~2014 (not liking the $25 at that time either) and replaced them with...you guessed it - majestics. my thinking at the time was i didn't host enough anymore to justify premium chips, so i would just grab some china clays, and those would be nice enough. well it turns out i DESPISED the majestics. i hated the $100 the most because it gave the illusion of being an octagon on my black playing surface, but i didn't really love any of them and the smell was so weird. so yeah, maybe i didn't think that all the way through.

but i do love the PCR set aside from the 25 chip, and IMO the mold is fantastic. i definitely regret selling them.

Paulson Classics.

What's even worse? Knockoff tributes to Paulson Classics.

P.S. I run a homeless shelter/orphanage for unwanted and abandoned original CDI98 chips. Feel free to send these poor huddled masses to me, and I'll even take care of shipping. My selflessness really knows no bounds.

TBF, are Paulson Classics a chip that a majority of people actually like?

Have never understood the hype around these, sorry...

I find myself going back and forth on these. There were times I thought they were the bees knees, and others, like recently, where I'm fairly "meh" on them. The fact that I'm not really into hotstamps probably plays into that.

I’ve got the WTHC set. The 25 is my least favourite. Feel they should have gone with a much lighter green. This is too dark and can cause dirty stack issues with the 100 (at least it does in my game which is played in poor light by short sighted drunken imbeciles).

I'm at the point where I'd sell my set as well if it wasn't my only leaded THC molded Paulson set. If I had a line on something else that I'd like putting in play more, they'd be gone.

Note: I'd make them available for trade for a grail BCC set (GCOP, Riverboat cash, Suicide King cash, Capital Rooms, etc) or another playable THC leaded cash set

No pics, so I’ll keep it simple.

I hate all hot stamps and ceramics. All of them. Any hot stamp needs a label on it, no matter how cool the chip color and edge spots are. I especially hate DDLM and tiki kings ceramics, and all ceramic plaques.

People may laugh, but this is what we do on the ground, in the street. We make them feel wanted, that they deserve their place. We gather them up, give them a bath, give them a bit of oil, give them some pride. Show them they're not alone by displaying them in the best racks among their equally loved brothers and sisters of all denominations, of all inlay shapes. It's not always nice, and it's not always appreciated, but it's a calling that cannot be denied.

Those wishing to help in rehoming and foster care of these chips can donate to me right here. No amount is too large.
