Before 2006, if I have my dates correct, the only spot pattern available from ASM (later became CPC) for everyday hacks like myself that didn't own a casino was 312. You know, this:
So when Jim announced to ChipTalk that members could order from a handful of spot designs previously unknown, I and several others jumped on it. From this came my tournament set, which uses artwork from my father. We did this as a project together while he was battling cancer, so it has special meaning to me. One side of the chip has the "Dano Poker" logo, the other side has an inlay specific for that denomination. The pictures will make it clearer (please forgive me for using a '$' on a tournament chip!):
The thing that bugged me from day 1 was that the 500s were thinner than the others; you could almost fit 21 in a rack. 20 of them was really close to the height of 19 1000s (see picture). And the colors on the chip do not bring joy. I only had 100 of them made, and wish I had more. So I have been thinking about remaking them when CPC opens back up for business.
The set is made of:
400 greens
400 blacks
100 lavenders
400 yellows
200 grays
40 whites (which basically never see the table)
I want to take advantage of the new color and/or spot options that have opened up since then, if possible. I don't know if I'll be allowed to only make 160 or 200 chips, but that is what I would do if I could, and since this is an add-on maybe I can. So for the moment, let's assume I can make 160 new 500s.
If I go with Blurple as the base, I feel like I need a lot of spots to make it visible and obvious compared to the black 100. Like one of these:
I'm also considering going with a pink (not DG) base, which would definitely not get confused with any other chip regardless of spot choices. For example:
I guess I'm looking for guidance / feedback here. It feels weird to have one chip in the whole set not have 1/4" spots, but ultimately I'd like to at least consider something else even if it "breaks" the set in some definition. Thoughts?
Also looking for anyone who also made a set during this time, and remembers how this all came to be. Who knew almost 20 years could fly by so fast?
