They are stickers and are very well applied. I would say you wouldnt have to worry about them under normal use. These are relatively new to the market so we do not have a lot of history to judge.

39mm or 43mm?

I'm not much of a full 43mm set kinda guy (don't mind them for the higher denoms) so I'm biased to say 39mm. I will say that I've handled every single Tina chip to come out, Sun-Flys, Abbiati, etc...and these 39mm are the best stackers out there in this category.
