I was wondering if anyone had a story of getting ripped off by either not recieving shipment or by sending shipment and having their payment get canceled. Just asking to avoid any potential mistakes. This forum seems to be filled with great and genuine people and my experiences thus far have been great. Knock wood.

Feedback is important. That's why I'm always bugging people I transact with for feedback (which I always give). It's the only way to know if someone's got a history of good faith transactions with others on the forum.

I encourage everybody to please let feedback as soon as possible for other involved in a transaction. Buyers should receive feedback immediately after payment, because they have fulfilled their part of the contract. Sellers should receive feedback immediately upon receipt of goods by the buyer. Post your intent to purchase publicly in the Classifieds so that feedback can be given.

Overseas shipment carries risk. I had a shipment get lost between countries once. I was the buyer. We waited several weeks and nothing was found.

He ended up refunding me though so that was super nice. Can’t expect that from everyone though.

If within the US and you’re dropping a bunch of dough, even with a good reputation, it’s not a bad idea to get insurance on the package to mitigate some of the risk.

I’ve had dozens of packages sent to Australia and have sent an equal amount all over the world with no issues.

I’ve had members receive and reship for me, for no other reason that they are awesome people. I’ve also had members ship me stuff for free, again for no reason other than they are awesome.

Pcf is how the world should be. I’m constantly seeing acts of awesomeness on here.

That being said, there is always the chance of the odd bad egg turning up unannounced, so it doesn’t hurt to check feedback and be aware of people’s general interactions on here to get a better idea for yourself.

As everyone else said, look at a members feedback. 0-5 positive feedbacks are good but generally 10+ is what will make me feel comfortable. Also, it sounds odd but the more messages the member has, the more active they are on here, which likely means their reputation on here is worth more than a few hundred or even thousand dollars they could make by scamming someone.

Other things will help you avoid ever being scammed or feel like you got ripped off:

If you're the buyer:
- When in doubt, pay with PayPal Goods & Services - they have a great track record of protecting buyers who use this service. I've participated in over a hundred purchases and have seen thousands of purchases on here and only seen a few problematic situations. All of those situations were easily resolved when the buyers used Goods & Services.

If you're the seller:
  • This ones personal preference but it's somewhat common practice on here so why not? Offer insurance to the buyer at cost. Let them know that once you've mailed it you release all reasonable shipping liability. By reasonable I mean if the package is lost or it shows up looks like it was hit by a nuke. I don't mean that you just packed it poorly and the chips got loose/broke in transit.
  • Speaking of the last part of the item above, ALWAYS use more padding and tape than you think is necessary. Check out the shipping threads on here for helpful hints and tips to make sure your packages are "bomb proof".
  • I sometimes (mostly when I'm shipping international and ALWAYS when I'm selling on eBay) film the packing process to show 1) the chips are as described when packed and 2) that the chips have been more than adequately packed and shouldn't face any damage in shipping. eBay and PayPal often overly favor the buyers and I've heard horror stories of buyers making false reports about receiving damaged products to get a reimbursement. If you don't have proof that you packed it well they'll always favor the buyer. Note: I wouldn't expect to run into that issue here with active members but better safe than sorry.
Sorry for the long winded response but if you follow the above you'll be good!

Awesome. Thank you for sharing.

.... Offer insurance to the buyer at cost. Let them know that once you've mailed it you release all reasonable shipping liability....

This brings up one pet peeve of mine: Many sellers are big on saying that they bear no responsibility once the package is accepted by USPS or another shipper.

Well, that's complete BS, because it's the shipper who is insured against loss. Any insurance claims must be made by the shipper, not the recipient. Sellers need to acknowledge that fact...

When I buy off a seller with little to no feedback I always pay via PayPal as goods and services and add the 3.5%. It saved me $400 when the guy never shipped me the chips and I had to make a claim.

This. I'll buy/sell from/to any regular in this forum, no questions asked. I'll sell to anybody with zero feedback, but I would be cautious buying from somebody here with zero feedback until they have established themselves. Paypal goods/services payments to those folks is a good idea.

I've had nothing but good experiences buying from PCF'ers, but there have been threads where nightmares popped up. You are looking at less than .01% of all the transactions, but there is always a risk.

Hell, even when I ship the chips I am metaphorically holding my breath waiting for the recipient to say that they arrived in good condition. There is always risk.

And in addition to this, even if they ask for funds as friends and family, I send as goods and services with the extra fees. If they don't accept it then I won't be doing business with them.

The only safe transaction is when you are the buyer and seller. Hand yourself some cash, pick up the chips from the shelf, and put them back down.

Don’t even need to box it up. Unless you like opening boxes.

Would buy from me again, 10/10 A+++

Dozens and dozens of transactions, both buying and selling, and have only had one mishap buying, but at no fault of the seller. FedEx lost the package. Luckily there was insurance on the package and everyone was made whole. Seller refunded me my money and recouped it from FedEx. The real travesty is the missing rack of chips that have been lost that now neither of us have the use of.

Any damaged or missing packages are the sellers responsibility entirely.
Any "delivered" packages that go missing are the buyers responsibility.
eBay and PayPal agree with me on both.

I have several bad stories, all involving people OUTSIDE the forum, except for one asshat who dared to show his face here after brazenly stealing my money and harassing me for more. He's banned now. Was made whole by PayPal two out of three times, thanks to PPG&S and reasonable investigation by them. The third time I count as stupid experience with PPFF but was for a fairly small amount of money so I let it go,

Yes - If insurance is bought, only the purchaser of the insurance can file a claim since, you know, they were the ones who bought it. :D:banghead::D

Bought a ton on here and outside of PCF, paying via many undesired methods (like Western Union). I can say that humans are mostly trustworthy, if only out of paranoia. If they think they are being tracked somehow, even if they are not, any compulsions to stray away from compliance are suppressed.

Only one time did a seller (outside of PCF) not seem to want to fulfill his obligation....so we had to get creative (link below)

I currently dealing with a shipment not arriving. Has zero to do with the seller and everything to do with US customs. Lol don’t ever deal with them if you don’t have to

I was sure I was getting ripped off on another forum. Account was made 10 minutes before the for sell add, price was too good to be true, user name was asdf.....

Anyways used PayPal good and services and used a credit card, but to my surprise, other than being extra dirty, I got the exact item

There was a bogus seller on here from france a few months back. Ended up having to put a hold on a transaction via my bank. Be a little extra cautious if the deal seems too good to be true!

When I first saw this thread I was going to add to it saying I had never had anything but great experiences in all of my transactions but I didn't because I didn't want to "Jinx" it -- and no I don't believe in that but why tempt the fates. Anyway, yesterday it happened. I found out what happens when someone does not know how to pack chips.

I got this box yesterday, yes one box, with two thousand three hundred and twenty four Milanos in it. The guy I bought them from (off eBay not here) is being awesome so I am not going to slam him but I will say, if you have never shipped chips before you NEED to read this thread and I am sending it to him as well. I ended up with 46 broken chips and am missing 166 which, when you look at these pictures the carnage isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Anyway, just thought I'd share this (by the way, the seller is replacing all of the lost and broken chips and has apologized profusely)

And, be warned, for those of you who, like me, love poker chips and hate the thought of broken mangled chip bodies you are about to be saddened -- you may want to hide your children's eyes. You've been warned

What the absolute F! This is ridiculous. I can't even imagine the expression on your face when you opened the box and saw this.

I know I was shocked and a little upset but I had to find out how bad it really was, how many of the chips had I lost, what was the guy going to do when I told him? As you can see it was bad, it looked like that throughout the entire box, broken trays, for some strange reason there were wood chips and candy wrappers and discusting pieces of plastic. It took four hours to go through and pull out, count and organize the mess. I really hope it's the last bad experience I ever have.

Wow, that’s just freakin bizarre! Even if the seller had no idea how to pack chips for shipping you’d think they would have made an effort. That seems just plain lazy. Better transactions ahead!
