I decided on a whim that I’m taking a year off from buying any chips. It’s not that I’m some major player in the market or anything nor is it a financial thing. I have probably 10 decent cash sets and 3 decent tournament sets plus various extra racks laying about. I told my wife about it last night and she gives me til the end of January. That only strengthens my resolve. I have already noticed less time wasted on eBay and Craigslist, with all the competition these days I haven’t found anything exciting there in years anyway. I may sell some stuff but I also want to try and appreciate what I already have. I think I have fallen into a trap of buying chips and then not caring about them because I want to buy more. So anyway nothing earth shattering here but I thought I would share.

You do have an awesome collection of chips. I wish we were using any of them tomorrow vs the Dunes chips that Jim has.

Your inspiring me Mike. I make a resolve to not buy any chips this weekend. I should receive a package tonight, and tomorrow. I technically bought them last week :)

The grind is real. Even as a noob with only one set at a time I have felt the "no appreciation" aspect you mentioned. I have not had any attachment to the chips I have purchased over the past few months and they all end up on the chopping block for that "next" thing that shows up. Just a constant churn of chips instead of enjoying the set.

Kudos @mike32

I occasionally have to remind myself... playing with the chips must be more enjoyable than buying them. If I can’t guarentee it, I can’t buy it.

So for 2019, I plan to sell some chips....

To make room for new ones
That is part of the problem for me, I hardly sell anything. I’ve said it before, my basement is the Hotel California for poker chips. I will try to get a pic of everything one of these days but it doesn’t quite measure up to the big boys around here.

Lol. I won't be that much of a non-believer, but I'd be hard-pressed to think I could go an entire year without finding ~something~ that caught my eye, even if I wasn't actively looking.

No pact with myself, but I'm pretty happy with what remains after recent sales. And probably more likely to sell more than buy more, at this point.

Those are awesome Bill. I have to admit though that it feels refreshing to not care what is in the classifieds for a change as I have hounded them for 10 years at least between here and CT.

My mantra is I do not want what I have not got!

I think I could do it. Just divert all my attention to tables, chairs, cards, getting more players, etc. But AFTER I finish my current project. :whistling:

EDIT: Oh, and a hotdog roller!
