The fact that I actually can't carry on this conversation further and make my points without fear of getting banned really is all the evidence I need.

You win - all is well :)
you talking about PCF here? Sorry not trying to be a dick, youjst have to clarify which site your talking about anymore.

Yeah, I can see where the pressure builds up massively, after 3+ years of membership and all of 15 previous posts. All that accumulated wisdom from sitting alone on a mountaintop in Sydney, shuffling dice chips -- it was bound to get to you. Maybe you should take a break.

Now bagging dice chips?!?! When will the hate stop.

Too much anger as far as I’m concerned

Definitely. I agree there.

Too much butt hurt. What do I mean by that? Too many people that can’t see over their own ego to realize that in the real world people make decisions and sometimes not everyone gets a cookie.

Again, very true. When those that get the "cookie" decide to sell it back to the "community" at 5 x its value, and then hate on the people that have a problem with it is where some of us have a issues.

Are things being handled poorly at CD. Absolutely. Not all of us are over there bad mouthing PCF and/or the private purchase endeavor (@BGinGA help me with the group buy term that your using please). Saying that, I think CD is melting and won't last much longer as long as Travis is running the show.

I’ve got a fucking rare, aggressive lymphoma and am facing 6 months of chemo

Sir, I'm very sorry to hear that. I've only met you once I believe. You seem like a great guy. My prayers and thoughts will be with you.

@Jeff you know I think your one of the nicest guys around. I hope to be able to make the CHI. game. I won't know until JULY unfortunately.

Morning sober edit:

Do ya know what, I don't even need to hear it. I live at the other end of the world, don't even regularly visit this site (mainly due to lacking budget and priority changes) yet can easily guess who has caused this drama.

What a shame.

I hope the community isn't divided too badly. Haven't had a chance to read this whole thread yet. Will make a coffee...

So the grand experiment, totally open, anything goes, no heavy moderation, say whatever you want, no filter, turned a little ugly. No surprise, welcome to the internet. Off topic discussions are going to go..... wildly off topic and get nasty. A certain percentage of every membership are only happy if they are stirring up shit. Thankfully it has been surprisingly shit free here at PCF for a while now. What some say is heavy moderation here at PCF I say is civility. Eventually most people get tired of all the name calling or being told to "die in a fire".

I'd prefer that there were not 2 chipping boards but let CD have their place (run the way they want) in peace and maybe we can have this place with some semblance of civility.

@Jeff I understand the frustration.

@bivey Thoughts & prayers going out for you. (y)

Uh, yeah. +100. Jeff is a chipper through and through with a track record that goes way back. That ought to mean something. I’m not caught up on current drama since I’m a couple of days behind, so I don’t give a crap what happened. I know people enough to know a smear campaign when I see it and CD has too many threads that ar just that.

Too much anger as far as I’m concerned. Too much butt hurt. What do I mean by that? Too many people that can’t see over their own ego to realize that in the real world people make decisions and sometimes not everyone gets a cookie. Well too fucking bad. It’s the way the world works. Not everyone gets a promotion, gets into Harvard, gets the hot wife, whatever.

I’ve got a fucking rare, aggressive lymphoma and am facing 6 months of chemo and you don’t hear me whining. Play the cards you are dealt and get over it.

For those at CD that want to whine, I see as it as an attempted power play and that’s it. That’s also life. We all have to choose who to lie in bed with. I forone have made my choice and it consists of sticking with the people I know to be good folks. No angle shooters in my stable of contacts.

I am very sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Hopefully all goes well with your chemo. I still expect to see you in February at the SQM (y)

Jeff, I completely understand your frustration, and your desire to have folks know that what is being portrayed about you on a competing website is not accurate. Especially given that here, you’re supposed to be enforcing decorum and be trustworthy. It tarnishes your name and reputation.

*******

My first thoughts after hearing Jeff got banned... claims that Jeff is a trouble maker and lacks integrity are so laughable.. he’s always the voice of reason, and calmness. I’ve seen him get shit on by people, and he turns the other cheek...

...here’s a thought, if you have pissed off Jeff to the point he’s actually making open comments that shine you in a bad light, you probably done effed up, should probably check yourself... not double down and make a fool of yourself by throwing shade on him... and banning him for voicing an opinion on moderation? when your major issue with PCF was a ludicrous claim that people were speaking out against PCF mods/admin and getting banned for it? Speechless (ok, obv not really speechless, lol).

As for PCF vs CD drama, I am not following all the drama/action on CD, so I can only speak for my own observations here. I’m only seeing one “reported” post every couple of weeks, as opposed to the 10+ per day we had at one point. So much less drama. Ya, I get this thread might create a bit of drama, but at some point, ya gotta start defending your reputation and good name. Jeff didn’t deserve to be banned/or penalized in any way, nor have his name tarnished.

Again, very true. When those that get the "cookie" decide to sell it back to the "community" at 5 x its value, and then hate on the people that have a problem with it is where some of us have a issues.

Bill - please remember: some of us have not publicly sold one single chip from the GB. Ever.

Please don’t throw us all in the same pot. :/

Yes - things were handled poorly on both sides as details became known. And I’m no saint here; I’ve had my fair share of being a complete dick to some of the members over there (which is why I’ve stopped logging in there, I figure it’s best I avoid the temptation to engage with the noise). But the generalizations of both camps are what’s been killing the entire community lately.

There are really good people on both sites who are getting their names dragged through the mud, simply by their association with others. I find that to be the most unfortunate outcome of all of this mess.

My take is that there’s a small group of people who aren’t welcome here or feel like they’re not welcome here or just don’t want to be here. And then there’s a larger group of people who are friends and/or sympathizers. And when you put those two groups together you have a lot of people who have a lot to offer, who are separated. And that’s where we are, and that stinks, and there’s no easy solution.
But trying not to bash each, the sites, or the mods is just good practice for all of us.

@Bert, I'm so so sorry to hear about this and hope your prognosis is good. You'll be in my thoughts, and I hope to hear some very good news from you in six months or so. This makes all the other goings-on seem so trivial.

@Jeff, I had a difficult time believing that you were temp-banned. Seriously? I haven't chimed in anywhere, preferring to sit on the sidelines and, in the words of Prahlad Friedman (remember him?), practicing avoidance.

@bivey sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Fuck Cancer.

@Jeff you spoke the truth, stated facts. No reason for you ever to be banned. It's a meltdown in the corral, you shouldn't take it personally. You're one of the finest people I've had the pleasure of meeting within our little hobby.

Stay the course.

Bill - please remember: some of us have not publicly sold one single chip from the GB. Ever.

I don't. I do have a problem with the guys that bought, and then resold at crazy exuberant prices to fellow "community" members whether it be private or public. When that happened I could now longer in good conscious use the word "community" to describe PCF. Then add to the fact that a few members on both sides started acting like complete assholes, and well........time to move on.

Please, don't infer any tone into my posts. I'm personally good to go. I've lost respect for a few people, but that is my problem, not theirs. I'm trying to start to casually post here again, but honestly I don't know.

I've talked to a lot of people privately about this, and my feelings on how things went down. I have never bad mouthed Tommy or PCF. I've made to many great friends specifically because of this site.

I've said enough. I'm going to look at chips, contemplate yet another purchase, and enjoy this hobby for what it is.

Are

you talking about PCF here? Sorry not trying to be a dick, youjst have to clarify which site your talking about anymore.

Just disregard my previous statement. I really don't want to get into this. Hopefully over time there is less drama and we can all focus on what we enjoy...which is chips and friends.

Jeff I've known you for over ten years on these forums and as far as I'm concerned you are first class.

Host of the First defined meetup and longest running Windy City Blowout - I've been once but wish I could have attended all.

Your Cred is Awesome!

So I stumbled across this thread while answering some PMs. I may be one of the donkeys that people itt are glad are no longer here, but thought I’d chime in anyway.

I do spend more time on CD these days, mainly because I find some of the content over there more compelling, and to some extent don’t feel as welcome over here. Regardless of where I’m spending my time though, I find myself getting closer to the point of walking away altogether.

I did not see Jeff’s comment/s on CD, and was not aware it was deleted until I was told after the fact. I was also not aware of any inter mod beef between sites which were apparently happening. I shared with Jeff via pm that I don’t agree with him getting banned, and don’t believe in site moderation. My impression of the situation was that Jeff was pushing things and maybe wanting to get banned? I’m not sure if this is the case, but that was my interpretation?
Was the end goal to prove a point that sites should be moderated a certain way?

Like the political temperature of the nation, we have a divided community. People have chosen sides, and no matter what flaws each side may have, it’s more important to expose the same flaws on the other side than address their own.

I miss some of the people over here, miss some of the conversations and even some of the arguments. I am constantly going to butt heads with @BGinGA, but still respect and appreciate much of his chip knowledge.

I wish everyone well, especially @bivey.

Hope things work out over time, but as long as the only lines of communication are cross platform trashing, my expectations will remain low.

I like your reply because it is honest, well thought out, and delivered without malice. Exactly what I expected from you sir. Thanks!

It's hard to keep up with who's getting banned/punished and for what reason since posts have been deleted on both sites.
No single person should have the authority to ban or remove posts. Should be a group decision and the infraction should never be deleted and the community given an explanation as to who why it violated TOC. Imo anyways. Maybe that's not practical given we all have busy lives to lead outside the chipping community.

Scott, I don't know of anyone who is "glad" that you're no longer here; quite the contrary in fact. You've certainly always been okay in my book.

And I don't view our exchanges as 'butting heads' -- most of your posts (directed towards me, anyway) I have typically considered to be clarification requests, with no apparent malice or other intent behind them. And that is appreciated, given the combative atmosphere over there that some seem to continually want to instigate.

I agree with you, the only way things will work out to everyone's satisfaction is to look at the bigger picture (chips, friendships) and let the petty stuff go -- publicly and privately. I don't know if that's possible for some, but I do hope so.

Admittedly I am not an avid poster, or reader. But I enjoy the friendships I have made through this site. Jeff, your a stand up guy. I am happy to call you a friend.

As for the rest (split community), I consider it a waste of my time and energy. But it seems to matter to many people, way more than it should on my opinion. No matter which position you find yourself in, it’s really past time to move on. The horse is dead, you can stop kicking it now.

Who are we kidding ?

Looking back at the CT times... I'm not sure if the cure was better then the illness.
Ten did fuck up the goldmine he had...but then some "beacons of wisdom with big bankrolls + staf" took over the show and look where we are now...

1. TCR got angled one to many time by some greedy A-holes that would get what they wanted no matter what...

2. The Unicorn of all chippers was born...we talked about this in SO MANY threads back in the day, thousands of posts...and when it happend, too many great members
were forgotten for all the wrong reasons

Newer members could not understand how huge this is/was.... it was like D-day for chippers but...besides the members that were forgotten, some current and
obselete chips were (almost) copied...so much for all the great ethics we still had @CT (this would have never happend in those days tbh)

To pile up the clusterfuck of events, then some other A-holes...in the spirit of taking one for the 'TEAM'...started to boycot the GB because of idiotic political
differences, who went to who's meetup, and other nonsense (it is a chipforum for crying out loud) and this resulted in more clusterfucks happening...all at the cost of
the hundreds of John Does who are apparently looked at (and feel like) ATM's, second tier, good for sponsoring, forum meat, ...

3. Two worlds apart (we are no longer one as a community)

4. We lost too many great chippers...long time members like Pasi (@Puggy) and others left because of this, I don't see Paul (@PAZ) posting and that man was the best chipper that ever logged in to a chipforum. But I don't want to sell short A LOT of great chippers that helped out the community more then people can imagine. artists, vendors, members, mod's, GB-ers....there are a lot of fantastic people within these groups but also a few rotten apples.

It's time that all these fine members & mods stand up and say....we had enough.
Any chipforum, ANY chipforum is useless without the above people....we built this all together.

So may I ask the powers that be, to start rebuilding what we once had and restore trust and unity..

And stop dicking around about hotdogs & sandwiches, political topics like elections, presidents that are in or not in office, ..., playing PI with forum info and calling out people for no reason, the GB's in general and anything with a star on it, the who did what questions in the aftermath of the GB's and any other toxic topic or attitude that prevent us of just having fun & enjoy chips.

I don't want to take sides or have people speak up for the rest of the community.. or think what we should or shouldn't want/need to know

Obviously the GB members were all put in the same bucket at first and that was wrong to do. Many had bought chips for their own personal collections and never had any intentions of selling. But those not involved in the GB were going to have strong feelings against everyone who was in that group, and that was very unfortunate. Some have tried to move on, but it has been hard for others. I am not here to justify anyone's feelings, but I hope everyone at least tries to understand them. We may not agree, but maybe, just maybe, we can try to understand.

Yes - things were handled poorly on both sides as details became known. Agree that many of us have acted poorly and said things we shouldn't have said. I am pretty sure there will be a,ot more said about the boat chips in the future and people will get their chance to resolve their grievances, but so many things went wrong in such a short period of time that it was hard to manage all the raw emotions as well as the necessary moderation. The latter was poorly handled and was a big reason behind the creation of CD. That may end up being the demise of CD as well, if Travis can't fix it quickly. I think there is a right way and wrong way of handling all these issues, especially on a narrowly focused niche sites that are dedicated to chipping or cars, or food, but again, we all varying opinions on how things should be handled.

There are really good people on both sites who are getting their names dragged through the mud, simply by their association with others. I find that to be the most unfortunate outcome of all of this mess.

We may have butt heads a few times, sold and bought chips from each other, but I couldn't agree more with your last comments. There are good people and bad people everywhere. We don't ALL have to get along. We can respectfully disagree and argue, but we can be part of a community of like-minded individuals who like these damn little circles.

Then add to the fact that a few members on both sides started acting like complete assholes, and well........time to move on.

I agree completely....there were and still are some asshats on both sides/sites.

I do spend more time on CD these days, mainly because I find some of the content over there more compelling, and to some extent don’t feel as welcome over here. Regardless of where I’m spending my time though, I find myself getting closer to the point of walking away altogether.

Many people share your sentiment.

Like the political temperature of the nation, we have a divided community. People have chosen sides, and no matter what flaws each side may have, it’s more important to expose the same flaws on the other side than address their own.

+1

On a personal note, I have posted less frequently on PCF as I felt I was driven away by some members. I had never put anyone on an ignore list, but after I decided to do so for a single member, I once again could visit the site and not feel constantly harassed. I even had a rough start here with @BGinGA (which is probably not a huge surprise to people ), and even though I still find some of his posts to be more like morse code requiring lots of hair pulling trying to figure out what he meant, what he said, or what he meant to say or what he said and then going back to see whether he did say it or not or he did mean to to say it or not....oh fuck...whatever.... I have come to respect his chipping knowledge, although I wish he would refrain from pressing that 'Post Reply' button sometimes and let some things go... I am sure there is a lot more to be said in the coming days, and I believe the drama on both sites is likely to be a good thing for the entire community, and force some new discussions about the future of our hobby.

At first a few people thought (as did I) that this would be a drama thread. But overall I think this thread has been a very healthy discussion. I'm very happy about that. Maybe some healing steps have been taken right here. Not kidding or trying to be sarcastic.

Good job everyone. (y)

All the names I'm seeing in this thread are people who's opinions and comments I like to read. I don't think anyone here has anything to worry about. Let's all just keep on participating and things will be good.

For myself I may not be the biggest contributor, but I love keeping up to date and connecting. There's lots of great people who are now divided on 2 sites so I have to go both places. No big deal.

There's plenty of me to go around. :ROFLMAO:
(Until my wife looks at me crooked. That means enough chipping for the night. You all know that look?) o_O

I’ve been getting the look a lot lately.

Wonder if she says the same thing? Hahaha.

But yeah maybe we should have a designated day of the week the site is "down for maintenance....of significant other".
