Sitting Out
Hey guys!!! Hope everyone's doing well on the felt. Yesterday was a great day as it was mail day!!
A little context before I get into all the details. About 1 year and some months ago, I set out to look for the company that made the best custom poker chips. I reached out to a few cardrooms to see who they used. I've always been a big fan of Paulson's top hat and cane poker chips, but I realized I was born too late to get a custom set from them because they stopped selling to the public a while back, so if you have a custom set of Paulsons, lucky you!! After contacting various cardrooms, I stumbled upon '916 Poker Depot'. I spoke with the owner directly, and within a month, he had proofs drawn up with color and all the artwork in the inlay. After I approved them, he went on with producing the chips, and sent me physical proof pictures. However, while I thought he was producing the chips, which were only 1200 chips total, the total time with production and delivery from California to the East Coast was 5-6 weeks. Months and Months passed, no progress, just the same run around saying that the chips were in production. A year later from the original finalization date, I requested a refund and got it. I'm very glad I got the refund and found myself looking at (Tina) chips here on poker chip forum.
Start (Tina) poker chips:
I started designing poker chips on the Chipmatic poker chip tool. The tool has a lot to offer, and it keeps getting better and better with every update. The person who runs the site is always adding more and more presets, colors, molds, and all kinds of different things that have to do with poker chips. If you haven't used that tool yet, please look it up on the forum; it will help so much with creativity, I can attest. I'm not at all creative, but the tool really did help me become proud of what I created. At the start, I didn't go straight through Tina, but I went through @Okku. He's a great guy and was a big help in making the chips come to life. He designed the inlay for my chips, which you will see in the following pictures. If he does not answer because he is a busy man with a family and a job, please respect that, and go to Tina on Alibaba. I'd also like to add that paying Tina straight up on Alibaba is not a scam or anything like that. You will get the product you purchase. Shipping time took a week, the production time took, I believe, 3 weeks, and that was with one inlay color being wrong. She will also send you a digital proof of your chips before production, and a physical picture of two of each chip you are purchasing, to make sure everything looks good to move forward with the mass production. You can also purchase chip racks from her as well. All in all, a good transaction and exchange of words with both Tina and @Okku.
Something I'd like to add real quick. I know a lot of people look at top hat and cane dupes as a rip-off, not honest, or just bad taste. I can understand that POV, however, as someone who loves PPC's, I love having them on the chips and wouldn't want any other mold.
Contrary to popular belief:
I've seen many threads on PCF stating that Tina chips sometimes had different colors on the same chips (not consistent in color), and with my set, that isn't the case. I designed my set to pop on the table, a set that someones never seen before. Now that being said, if you've ever seen any chips that look like mine, good for you. But mainly just to have this set be my forever set. Another thing I've seen people say that are cons about Tina chips are spinners. I have no spinners within 2000 chips, I've checked. Another is the chalky texture. Yes, when I took them out of their plastic-wrapped packaging, they do have a chalky texture. I've been shuffling a barrel all day so far, and they have gotten slicker throughout the day. not too slick but a good feel, easy to shuffle but not too hard to shuffle either, that perfect middle. I haven't had any "break" as some say, but I guess that comes with time. If, God forbid it happens, you all will be the first to know. The last thing I've seen is people arguing over whether or not they are the closest you can get to a Paulson. I have to say yes. The weight, the mold. the inlay, the colors, the edging, the enlightenment/customization, and the sound. I'd say they are the closest other than CPC. Even though I have not owned or had even a sample set of their chips, I've done my research and those are the absolute closest; they just don't have the top hat and cane mold. (Much more expensive than Tinas)
Details:
