Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (6 Viewers)

I think hot stamps got ignored because the traditional casino industry never put great value on them, reserving them for low value fracs, using only solid colour chips with them, using simple fonts rather than well-designed graphics, etc.

When something exceptional comes along, it garners more than the usual amount of attention because it happens so rarely. Examples: Vesper Club, Cactus Pete's.

Best of all worlds. Solid, hotstamped, house mold. Triple threat!

Going from 39mm $1s and $5s to 43mm $25s! What’s your take on this transition. Is it the nuts or just dumb?
Depends on the stakes. I like the idea of giving the high(er/est) denoms on the table a little more “important” feel with a bigger chip, so a .25/.25 game with a $25 chip is cool when you get an oversized 100BB chip. If you’re playing 2/5, not so much.

Not dumb. Using big chips for big chips is awesome. But it's not the nuts only because cutting out a bet with two different sized chips using one hand is challenging.

This! I like the look/feel of a bigger chip coming into play but don’t know if it takes away from trying to look cool like Johnny Chan when cutting them up to make a bet with.

Why do I dislike chips that only have the Denom on one side of the chip and the just the Logo without the Denom on the other side?
Is it a guessing game of, What is the Chip Worth?

Why do they do that?
I generally agree but there are a few examples around here that have pulled that off masterfully. I wish I could think of an example.

Curious, do you have to reaffirm the denominations/colors every time you bet? Most games I play they are established at the beginning and don’t change mid game. I never find myself two hours into a game and asking myself “so what are the green chips worth”? Because I’m too lazy to turn one over?

Exactly.

There are lots of nice sets that come up in the classifieds that are super inefficient/unplayable. I'll see a set at a decent price only to open it up and see it's 50c/1/2/5/10/25 or something like that. Maybe that's part of the reason why the set is reasonably priced to begin with. This isn't about a specific recent listing but something I've seen over the last few weeks/months as I start to daydream about a second set.

Based on several different recent chip reveals, 5+ long term chippers recently dealing with issues/scams/fibs for $10k+ in goods, etc., it would seem that perhaps all the circle j*rking or "if you have nothing nice to say don't say nothing" isn't working out so well.

I used to think maybe it (constant cj's) was generated from cliques, maybe it was natural in a small hobby, etc., but I think my current thought process is it's just because no one wants to hurt anyone's feelings and possibly limit their chipping/acquisitions/connections.

Which is cool, but no one can be publicly honest anymore with actual unpopular opinions (or feedback), and maybe some of this nonsense is the result.

Or it's just the ebbs and flows of it all and I'm full of sh*t, which is much more likely.

Sounds like someone feels left out.

Faro Dunes Tournament > Rancho Agave Cash > Faro Dunes Cash

@TheChipVault no diss because it follows the Lamborghini > Ferrari > Maserati pattern.
Generally agree. Faro Dunes tourney set is ridiculous. Rancho Agave is perfect for 25c/50c small mixed games. I would say that depending how deep the game gets and the player base (lots of casino experience?) those type of players are gonna roll their eyes at the Rancho Agave colors and $20 denom whereas the Faro Dunes cash chips are going to feel right at home.
