were stolen, with the exception of one rack of $5s.
The package was opened, and it arrived battered at the hands of member @Bugobart
I advised him to immediately submit a damage report.

The chips were sent through "Registered" mail, providing tracking and requiring the receiver's signature for delivery.

According to tracking history, the package left Athens airport on May 24th and got stuck for more than a month in the customs and/or USPS mail hub in Chicago airport (actually, this info was provided by the handler airline to Hellenic Post upon inquiry of mine; USPS kept telling the receiver for weeks that the package should be still in Greece:rolleyes:)

Please keep an eye for the chips.

The negative feelings emoticons are somewhat problematic in their use.
You can't distinguish between sharing the poster's sadness or anger at something, from being sad or angry AT them:)
I know  :ROFLMAO: lol I just want to make sure he doesnt feel like I was complaining about threads like these, whereas I was actual saying I hate seeing this happen to people!

Ugh I hate seeing post like this, why do people feel the need to take what isn't theirs!

Having lived overseas on an MIL FPO in Japan for 15 years, Id say thats just USPS being the incompetent
USPS they are. When I was here in Guam on travel years ago I got a flat rate envelope of MGM quarters,
A full RACK too like who does that but I digress, anyway the envelope was soaking wet in a plastic bag that USPS
delivered it in and it smelled like the whole thing soaked in a bucket of week old beer for another week. The chips
were in saran wrap so weren't too bad that a little soak couldn't fix. But still, I've received boxes that look like they
were run over by a truck or fell out of the plane then dragged by boat the rest of the way. Not just a single
occasion at least a handful of times they obviously treated the box like a red headed step child just beat the piss
out of it. IMO 30% stolen / 70% chance USPS incompetence. Chicago is the hub now for international mail like ALL
incoming FPO/APO mail and alot of international like Atlantic side now I think. So they are probably overrun with
mail I know CA is, anything I get that goes through CA right now takes an extra week their PO hub is just a mess.

SUPER crappy deal for both involved nothing worse than your box getting lost or destroyed but more likely than
not USPS just doesn't care. Had a box sent from somewhere southern CA, it took 10 days to get like 150 miles and
was never once scanned till it reached Hawaii about 13 days later. Fools were using the box for a door stop. Its
totally shitty and being in Guam now the ONLY affordable means is USPS. Sucks like no other :(

Wow that's a shame. We've had a box that had tire tracks on it (driven over I guess?) And ones with footprints... like ok..

I’m the last guy who should be defending the USPS, after they recently tried to steal some chips from me. But overall, I’ve always thought they’ve gotten a bad rap, and that they do remarkably reliable work for cheap.

Their pandemic service has dropped significantly - you can pretty much double the time it takes to ship anything. Some of that is to be expected. But I wonder if USPS employees have just stopped giving amy effs?

But this story sucks. Not just for both parties involved, but especially because this happened to a new guy.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully the claim is processed quickly - I've been very lucky and never had an incoming or outgoing package go missing or damaged (I used to ship and receive chips so often that all of the post office employees knew me and didn't bother with verifying my ID).

How long do these claims usually take to be reimbursed? Probably even longer during these times?

I had to file a claim on two iphones I sold years back, probably stolen.
It took FOREVER and they are not friendly to pay an insurance claim they try anything to find a way out of it.

There was a thread in the last month or so ( I don’t remember the member) that had only a few chips show up in a box, filed a claim and got all the chips back. The USPS was wondering who’s they were until the claim came in. Bottom line, file the claim ASAP.

Sad and unfortunate story, but in the interest of accuracy, the thread title should be 'RHC chips missing'. There is no hard evidence of theft.

I could go with "presumed stolen", as for people in boat or air accidents "presumed dead".:(
What other outcome can you expect in this specific situation?

A timescale, as described by the tracking machine, for information and educational purposes:
-May 20th, item submitted to local post office in Athens by Coyote
-May 24th, item taking off to the USA from Athens International Airport
-JUNE 26th (more than a f*ckin month later), item "returned" by the mighty US Import Customs to the USPS, in Chicago.
-JULY 16th (after three weeks in their hands) the USPS delivers the crippled package to @Bugobart (in greater Chicago).

Finally got permission to post here.

I think the box got crushed at some point and the end was open enough that all but one of the chip boxes fell out. It looked like there was different tape on that end.

Currently there is an investigation open, but I am not holding my breath.

@Coyote has been very helpful and appreciate the communication.

So not double-boxed, not 100%-taped, and no single brick (w/address) inside. Avoidable disaster.

The box was fully taped all-around along its seams and, inside it, all chip boxes were wrapped in bubble wrap and kept in place with multiple pieces of foam.
@T_Chan and @tulkas who have received large packages from me can attest the quality of my packaging.

That box has been through some hell!

I think some time between May 24 and June 26 it was routed through Hades.

Looks like it got crushed a few times going through package sorting. The other racks are either destroyed, sitting in some back room at a package sorting facility, or just thrown out as they wouldn't know where to direct them. Very sad fate for chips.

Yet here we are.

Any of the three items I mentioned would likely have prevented the box breach or subsequent loss of contents. All three together most certainly would have.

Live and learn; apply next time. Especially the single-internal-brick-with-addressee part -- it is both safer for the contents (zero movement) and makes it extremely difficult for part of a shipment to get lost/separated and become untrackable.
