Trump Taj Mahal (2 Viewers)

I stayed at the Taj for a job interview in 2014 and it never dawned on me to pick up some chips. I played blackjack for a couple hours on the same trip at Trump Plaza, literally a couple days before it was supposed to close and never got chips. Definitely beating myself up over that.

As others have stated their chips are really really dirty and worn out. It’s a better deal to spend a little more (at that time) to pick some uncirculated ones off eBay.

According to the seller, the roulette wheel I have may have originally come from the TTM, because he got it at auction. If it's true, then it represents concrete proof that Mr. Trump is a terrible businessman, because any reasonably-operated casino of that size should never go bankrupt.
That may be true for casinos in other states but once you understand the taxation and burdens put on by the state of new jersey you will find out all casinos go to die in NJ. The state promised the citizens of AC and casino owners to develop the surrounding areas many times over, but never kept their word. Add in $125 red eye flights to Vegas, and that pretty much put the final nails in the coffin.

I remember the casino deaths when I lived out there. I stood outside of Revel a day after it was shutdown. 5 casinos died from 2014-2016, with Revel being built in 2012 and closing in 2014, opening in 2018 as Ocean Resort. Multiple layers of state and region dysfunction. Overpriced rooms, new casinos opening in surrounding states, ridiculous and burdensome gaming taxes in NJ, complete mismanagement in the gaming industry (read about Revel), and hurricane Sandy and false reports of AC boardwalk being destroyed, and it was a perfect storm for the casino deaths. Trump Plaza, Revel, Showboat, and Atlantic City Hilton, and Trump Marina all closed, with only 3 of them reopening.

For someone who worked in Atlantic City and frequented it from 2008-2015, it was very sad to see how the perfect storm destroyed the casino and tourism industry there (And let’s not forget that AC was a completely corrupt cesspool dating back to the post world war 2 era).

I frequent AC often when I was working and living in VA from 2006-2010. Outside of the strip/boardwalk the city was a complete dump. I recall it being very rundown similar to Detroit in the 80s/90s. Never understood how the casinos generated enough money to stay afloat

There have actually been multiple economic studies involving casinos being built in cities and towns to boost the local economy, and they have the complete opposite effect. AC was a horrible town outside of the boardwalk, with violence and poverty. The towns in Illinois where I am that have casinos, Joliet, Aurora, Elgin, Hammond and East Chicago right across the Indiana border, all these towns are run down and economically dying, and the casinos have done absolutely nothing To help the situation.

As more and more states try to close their budget gaps with gambling, the opposite turns out to happen. Less people are gambling than previous, and on top of that, the poor and fixed income elderly are most affected by the casinos.

Casinos make a lot of their money off the working (and retired) poor.

Warren Buffet did say that Casinos are taxes on the poor. But still, those casinos were massive. The upkeep on those places must be enormous. During my time there around the poker boom I only recall the Taj and Borgata being really busy. The others were so so. The boardwalk was awesome. Too bad I didn’t appreciate it as much as I do now after watching boardwalk empire

This is spot on to how I see it. My hometown of Windsor Canada was booming in the 80s and 90s. The downtown area was extremely lively. Then they added the casino and the rest became history.

It’s not just the casinos but the type of businesses it draws. You end up having all kinds of shady types of business coming that really devalues the surrounding real-estate causing the middle and upper classes to move out . Long gone are the good image businesses and they are replaced with pawn shops, cash for gold, advance cashing, strip joints, etc.

Taj Mahal was the first casino I had ever entered, back in 2013... it was a sad sight inside, I'll never forget that poor old woman sitting between two slot machines, pulling first the left handle, than the right one, than the left one again, etc. etc.

It’s even sadder when you realize she’s wearing diapers but not for health reasons

@TomC727 I totally agree with having a chipset that brings back memories of your early playing years.
A CPC replica Taj set would be cool , I myself would lean towards a resorts international replica. I will admit that the Taj had better eye candy and more action at the the tables and I had some great times there; but the chips I loved to play with were those resorts int.

i wonder if there isn't a group buy starting to form

I’d be in for a group buy for Taj chips. I was part of a 3 man poker team w two of my closest friends at the time. We’d go down to Taj on Thursday and come back Sunday night. We’d pool our money and play every tournament they offered. We’d have 12-16 tournaments and we’d make money every week. The best days were when all 3 of us would make the final table. Good times.

Any Midnight Madness Tournaments at the TAJ?

Which one of you do keys has been driving up the prices of Taj chips even more on eBay?! I felt like prices started to come down a little bit but someone in the last couple weeks has been going hog wild. Right now someone bid up a different hole $1 to $14 before shipping! Arghh

There was a set on here where the PCF Member made TAJ Tribute Ceramics. He had them made by CPC. However, were it says Trump like on the logo below he had that removed and it says Poker instead of Trump. CPC did make the chips for him so I'm thinking you could get CPC to make ceramics with Taj Mahal, but without the word Trump.

I forgot to post these. I had these Dealer Buttons Created in 2017 and ran a group buy for these back then. That was my first GB on here. Unfortunately the original artist and the producer of these SAL passed away and I lost the artwork and we also lost a great member of this site. Sal and I were working on a TAJ set that I was going to do on CPC Clay. We were emailing back and forth ideas when he passed. Then last year I did do a Custom CPC set, but I went with a different idea I had.

At least rosemont isn’t a dump and I doubt the city would let it turn into one

I’ve noticed that. I’ve been very active in the last couple weeks but the prices are skyrocketing. $20 a chip is getting ridiculous. Even some of my offers have been shot down and countered with absolutely crazy prices.

Yeah. Rosemont has still stayed very nice, though their political influence is at a different side of corruption.

On top of that, they do a very good job at competing with Chicago for business travel, because of their proximity to O’Hare. They can offer the same high level of service for business conventions and entertainment options but a cheaper rate compared to city costs.

I want these So bad. How do I order these Or get a group buy going?
@p5woody posted a the thread from the person who made these chips. You would need to get permission from him to use P5Woody's design he already did for him. Woody is the designer, but does not own the rights to the design. You could get ceramics made by @ABC Gifts and Awards / @BR Pro Poker whom are vendors on here and would be cheaper if than CPC Ceramics. If you ran a Group Buy you would get more chips ordered which would drive down the price per chip. You can get 39mm or even the larger 43mm Ceramic Chips. If you weren't allowed to use that design I'm not sure why they would not let you as if you had a designer or even hire woody to redesign a TAJ chip the design would be similar or almost the same except for the outer edges.
