Trump Taj Mahal (1 Viewer)

Then they must have hemorrhaged it somewhere else.
There is a documentary on how bad the taj was losing, to the point his dad would helicopter a couple of million dollars in cash to keep solvent. I have friends from the AC area and they despise trump for what he did to contractors.

If we do it I definitely want some pink chips as well. They got a little play in the two way game bc there was a kill. Half Omaha high low and half stud high low

This is my attitude. It gives me something to do. Although I have deviated slightly and since all of the chips from the 90s were mandated house denom mold with the same spot patterns I am going to do a true mixed set. $1s from all of the casinos and $5s from all of the casinos etc. This is a long term project though. As an example here are some of the different $1s.

Love the idea. Doing something similar with the 1s. Going with 20 different AC $1 house molds. Technically it's 19, as the Trop purple repeats, looked to be different colors in the chip guide. Having issues finding Red Trump Plaza and the Brighton. Have not yet decided if I will relabel them when I'm done.
Encouraged to see others having success collecting these, but didn't realize there was so much competition, now I know who keeps running me up on eBay. :whistling:

I actually think there is another party that keep driving up the prices of these singles collections. $100 listings for 20 singles, some with crap, and my lower offers getting shot down immediately.

There are a couple listings for some $5 chips for over 2k, and you try to make a reasonable offer and they immediately get shutdown. Craziness.

You're talking about the $2.50 chip below? I only have that one. That would be a nice one to include in a custom set.

Loved the Taj poker room. I used to play cheap tournaments at the Sands. Then hit the cash games at Bally's because they gave out free hotdogs at the tables. Then once those tables slowed down, head to the Taj where there was always action.

I also played at Billy’s Room at Bally’s almost every Saturday for a year. I would play at their 1-3 tables. I don’t think they had 1-2. I entered in their tournaments sometimes, but played mostly cash. Then I would head over to the Taj for the midnight madness tournament. I remember the free hotdogs at Bally’s. Those were great if you didn’t want to take a break from playing to eat somewhere. Boy those were great times. I was a pure Degenerate back then. After a full night of playing in the Midnight Madness tournament if I cashed it was either sit down and play NLHE at the Taj or hit the Black Jack tables for a few hours. The game they had the at the Taj that no other places I knew had was 7 card stud. I decided to play it one evening to check it out so I ask the lady in front and she directed to the one table. I kid you not there were 5 other people at the table already and they all had oxygen tanks.

This brings back so many memories. I think Bally's may have been the original inventor of hot dogs in a poker room. We used to arrive in AC around noon on Fridays and then gamble for 48 straight hours like true degenerates until noon on Sunday. I would play poker until I started getting too tired and then I would hit the craps table or the strip club for an hour to wake up and get energized. There's so many memories of little things like riding the golden escalator to get a cup of coffee, or getting a sandwich at the white house sub shop downtown. I look back on it and cringe though at the thought of gambling for such long hours. I would never want to put myself through that type of torture today.

Yep the Same for me. I couldn't imagine doing that today because it would end in Divorce. For me the Strip Clubs in AC sucked not that I would know  :whistling:. That is what I heard from others.

As everyone has said...Taj was a special place for me too. First place I ever played live casino poker just days after I turned 21. Rounders played a role in that. My first day in there was a Friday night. It was mobbed. Spent many hours in that room. Very often found myself heading back to my room at Resorts at 2-3-4am. Shame it became a shell of itself in the months leading up to Taj closing.
I’m still peeved that Hard Rock didn’t put a poker room in especially since it was in the original floor plan. If they had, I would have no excuse to ever leave when there. Now with Ocean eliminating their poker space, there’s again no room at the North end of the boardwalk. When COVID ends, Hard Rock needs to put one in and they will do very well.

Bally’s/Ceasers down by the sports bar still has a poker room. 20-30 tables. It’s temp closed because if covid.

It’s very disappointing that HR doesn’t have a poker room. I’ve mentioned it to some of the management that have asked me about my stays there since opening.
They mentioned that it may be a possibility at some point but for now the corporate big wigs like things as they are.
Oceans card room was literally like playing cards in the old Taj room, many familiar faces from back in my more regular playing days from Taj were regulars at Ocean. Ocean’s had the best poker comp rate in town as well at $3 per hour.
After an 8 hour session you could take a short walk down to Wahlburgers for a delicious comped meal and Ocean’s comped me ANY 2 nights per week.
I still get the free room offers which is always nice, just wish I didn’t have to go all the way across town to find a good card game.

Yes but that’s more the center of the boardwalk. Resorts, Hard Rock and Ocean that comprise the north end there are no poker rooms. Even at a brisk walking pace, it’s a solid 20 minute walk to Bally’s and not a walk you want to make after 10pm anymore

Yep noticed a lot of faces there, it it never got off the ground. I never saw more than 3 or 4 tables and they only ran 1-2 and occasionally 2-5. No tournaments or anything.

Hard Rock had a poker room in their original floor plan in what is now a slot area out in front of Sugar Factory and over near the Sportsbook. I think they decided not to have it when Ocean announced they would have poker so they wouldn’t have to compete. Now a days they could easily have a room and if they kept it up, I think it could possibly compete to be the 2nd best room in town behind Borgata.

No doubt poker at HR would be a hit. I hope at some point it does become reality.

I thought that side of the casinos was the safe side (was always told to stay away from the other side.)

20 years ago you didn’t want to walk anywhere outside at any time of day any day of the week.

The boardwalk is okay and has been improved over the years, but still not enough to take a 20-25 minute walk at midnight or anything like that. At least for me, personally. But yes, avoid the street side at all costs.
