Starting Up a Home Game - Card Suggestion? (2 Viewers)

I found that the only bridge setup that works consistently well with a Shuffle Tech are Broken Arrows. Everything else (Faded Spade, Dal Negro, Copag, Fournier WSOP, KEM, Statesman) jams and the vast majority of jams happen during the strip.

We've been using Faded Spade and everyone seems to like them. Historically we would use Copag, which I still like. Recently we gave Broken Arrow a few orbits and liked them, but with both them and Faded Spade available we chose to play with the latter.

I don't know how you get better than Desjgn. However, just like poker chips...different people like different things.

The MGM has recently switched all of it's card rooms to Faded Spade as well as the WPT, so they're worth a look. A lot of people complain they are stiff, but they are designed to be durable for casinos, and you don't really use your cards much in poker. I think they are worth it for the smooth artwork alone in my opinion no other popular poker card brand comes close on the design aspect.

Very mixed opinions on here about them. My players and I love the artwork and feel but others have had problems with bowing and the cards splitting apart.

Yeah, I haven't had a chance to use mine enough to run into it either, but I have heard it could be a potential issue. However, I've seen a lot of the posts were also about the 2.0 version when I was researching a few months ago about buying them so hopefully it may have been reduced/fixed, or will get better going forward.

3.0 apparently bows easier, your experience may vary. Enjoy! Love their WPT version.

I like Fournier, Modiano, and Da Vinci (which I think are new Modianos?)

KEMs are not worth the price IMO.

Copags make a lot of sense for the money. FWIW I got a bunch of set ups of 1546s and they all stink to high heaven. It's a bit shocking really. You certainly need to read the reviews here as there are serious questions about wear. That said, for the money.

I've not really put them through their paces but I'm surprisingly pleased with Guild Arc & Arrow. Got kind of a KEM (design wise) crossed with Modiano (stock; they come in Modiano branded cases) going on.

KEM Arrows
Have not ran a game in 10 years, blame the kidos. Dusting off the Paulson cash set for a consistent monthly game in SE Michigan.

Have been searching and reading the form for guidance/advice to spice up the card selection used.

What type of cards are you using in your home games?
My favourite Plastic Cards in feel and grip are KEM Arrow

And after Santa brings you a box of Faded Spades Copags will still be the only "nice" cards you have had. I tried Faded Spades 3 times. Cards split in all 3 sets.

I'm literally gonna do ONE more attempt with Faded Spade after having also 3 decks split on me. Most recently, just this week, a 3 of clubs just split up during a flop coming out.

Just got back into hosting and we've ran 3 weeks in a row consecutively (after having a few years off). I'm going to get their classic face design and hope that they're better than 2.0 that I got many years ago....

And obviously pick up some other stuff too because they can't be trusted. I was a fan of Fourniers, so looks like they're still a good deck.

Love the art on faded spade, but generally prefer cards that are more supple... which is pretty much every other brand I've encountered. (Angel, Piatnik, Copag, Kem, Desjgn, etc.). Don't have a shuffletech, though.

Why? Three bad decks and you want to keep using them? Just curious.

Only reason I’m trying is because it was 3 bad decks from 2.0

I just don’t like how flimsy and “faded” Copags look. I prefer a deeper color. Yes I can get Kems but it looks like the price has doubled in the last 5+ years that I needed to buy decks. They also do warp in my use cases.

Looks like it’s hard to get Fourniers now. I like Triton but don’t know where to get those either. Hmmm

You might want to look at Desjgn or Broken Arrow. (easy to get and great cards)

This was my experience as well. Second time playing with them had a card split in half and was only offered 15% off my next purchase. Unfortunate too because I love the look of them.

15% off on next purchase? That's a joke!

Iirc Copag offers a free replacement of a card when requested. Imho, thats customer service done right!

I thought so too, that's why I haven't purchased anymore despite really liking their design. I've had great luck with Copags myself as well.

If you ever play at my house I'll give you a few setups of plastic cards. We don't play NLHE however. Circus games all the way baby!

I use many types of Poker sized Copags (various index), Fornier, Modiano, and China plastics, and recently, it's been exclusively Fornier EPT's, rotating decks every hour at my home game.
Some China plastics are decent as well, but use them less than the others. The Poker Stars Copag's are OK, but not my favorite.
I have no issues with Copag, have not noticed the smell. My current Copag cards are peek index, therefore don't use them as much.
I gave other Copag cards to my buddies that have home games...much better than paper cards...

Hate Copags (I mean they are nice cards but to me they stink and I can't take the smell)
I detect no smell whatsoever from Copags
I am very sensitive to smell...and detect no smell from my copags. I’m sure if they had a smell I would not use them.
I recently ordered a set of Copag 1546s and haven't noticed a smell either. My local poker club uses Copags as well and I haven't noticed a smell.
I'm another anti-Copag vote (as somebody who always deals in our weekly game). Hate the smell and floating top card.

I am in the Copags stink group. Like, really stink, really bad. Like Shrek drank ammonia and then pissed on a burning tire bad. Gives me a literal headache. I'm not sniffing the deck (try to keep my nose as far from them as possible). It just permeates the room. My hands even smell bad after shuffling them. I am not usually sensitive to smells - I (and a few others in this thread) must have some rare gene or something.

I prefer Modianos/DaVincis and Desjgn. (I am also fine with a fresh deck of paper cards for the night...does that make me some sort of psychopath?)

I like Copag. I bought many decks and they had no odor at all. Went to a game last month and he bought Copags, they smelt like diesel fumes - BAD!
