New guy here with a budget of 2k-3k, what kind of set can i get if i'm shooting for Paulson and how many chips would i be able to buy/denomination?

I have the monte carlo set but am looking to buy a nicer set for myself :)

Please let me know if i should post elsewhere

Welcome!

What are your stakes and amount of bank needed? You can get a really nice set of 600 chips for a cash set at most stakes for that amount.

Hi, we would need to know if you are looking for a cash game set or tournament set.
We would also need to the know the stakes you play and how many players it would be for.
Thanks and Weldome
ah ty sir - mostly cash set. any reason we can't use tournaments for cash or is it because the denoms are higher? i would say 5/5 with opportunities to expand into 5/10/20. I don't mind picking up a set for 1/2 also. This set is mainly for me to look at and play with. Will probably sell off my Legos to get into poker chips :)

Does that include a table and chairs? Thats the biggest part your players will remember. Good luck with the search!
just chips only - set is mainly for me to look at and play occasionally

If your average cost is looking to be no more than $3/chip, you can get a really nice CPC custom set with your own inlay design, colors, spot patterns, etc.

If you're dead set on Paulson, The Chip Room is overdue for another sale. The person behind it buys out casino chips from rebranded or closed down casinos and resells here. The casino secondary chips are usually dead mint and don't have any game play on them at all. If you look around the classifieds section here, many RHC molded Paulson sets have been sitting there for days. If your game uses fracs however, you may need to relabel other chips for use as most casinos don't have a ton of fracs. Relabeling is the best and cheapest way.

If you want the creme de la creme (IMO) THC molded Paulsons, the sales ad I tagged you in is about the best you can do and may come in just under your budget, if not just slightly more, and it's a ready made single table cash set out of the box, no relabels necessary.

I wouldn't get fixated on having a ton of chips in the dealer tray to make it look cool. Buy what's right for your game. 600 chips is more than enough for one full ring, 10 person table. 1000 covers two tables easily.

Breakdown is 100 quarters, 200 $1's, 200 $5's, 100 $20's. Total bank $3225

Ok, $5/$10/$20 is a pretty big game and is usually played with a few $5's and bunch of $10's and several $100's so that might require a different set up but I would think a set up of this breakdown would work for you for all the stakes. If by 5/10/20 you mean 5 cent/ 10 cent/ 20 cent let then ignore below.

100 - $1's
400 - $5's
300- $25's
100- $100's
80 - $500's
20 - $1000's

There are a lot of Indiana Grand sets available at a reasonable price. Give it some time and don't rush. You can definitely find something in your budget.

As for a tournament set, yes you want higher denominations, but even more important you never want to mix let's say a $500 chip that is meaningless in a tournament but would be a big loss to the bank/house if it got "smuggled" into the cash game.

You may need a fractional chip, or play the denomimations as dimes, depending on the stakes you play.
how do i get to reply to the CDI post -- that would be nice cash set.

in general, what is the price range per chip that is reasonable for both seller and buyer? for the quantity i'd like say 1000 chips? What is considered a good deal also?

if i'm doing the math right -- the CDI cash set doesn't break the bank overall / per chip either it seems

Let alone there are off-the-shelf CPCs plus the Key West chips, also made by CPC.

Don't rush (but if you really fall in love with the Casino de Isthmus Paulsons, do rush).
Anyway, you 'll have spent more than $10K in two years' time here. :)

Welcome. I pieced 1100 RCH paulsons together for a cash set, with custom lables from @Gear, for about $2300. I found a lot of deals to keep the chip average price down. Most are near mint, some are casino used condition. The bank is more than I expect to ever see on a table in my circle ($5650). I may sell off a rack to make it an even 1000 pcs.

Current break down is:
200 × $0.25
500 × $1
300 × $5
80 × $20
20 × $100

Sometimes I play .25/.50, others .50/1. Depending on the group.

Single table would be easy to run. With less than 500 pcs.

Welcome to the forum! If you are looking for a 1000 pc set to play $1/$2 up to $10/$20 then I would recommend this breakdown:

100 x $1
300 x $5
300 x $25
200 x $100
100 x $500
Total chips: 1000. Total bank $79,100.

Usually, you want to have denoms in increments of 4-5x the previous denom for chips and budget efficiency. You could also add 200 $10 chips if you didn't want to deal with $5 for the $10/$20 game.

Welcome to PCF. I think you have a good budget for most Paulsons you can find in the classifieds. Most of the Paulsons you can get are casino used. (They haven't sold consumer lines for decades.) They do hold their value pretty well so you can probably buy and sell different ones until you land on something you like. Also +1 for @JMC9389 's suggestion of looking for sales from "The Chip Room" (they have a vendor forum on here), those also hold their value so you if get something and decide not to keep it, pretty easy to resell.

The question of how many chips comes down to how many players you host and the stakes you play. Sounds like you are into pretty high games. I think most PCFers are comfortable playing between 0.25-0.50 and 1-2 NLHE for example. (But you can also read about way more variants than you would have ever dreamed as you continue down the PCF rabbit hole.) So your stakes already sound on the high side, which is okay.

In all modesty, I made this post on this famous thread and I think it's a pretty good guide for mapping out cash sets. The whole thread has good advice, but I'll bias you to my post first :p.

You CAN use the same set for tournaments and cash, but PCFs have settled on two good reasons not do to this.

1) Security. Even by accident, a tournament chip on the floor that appears on cash night can be an expensive banking error.
2) Excuse to buy more chips. Even though I don't think tournament sets need to be too extensive.

I'll put in a plug for @Machine 's New Members Start Here thread as well. A lot of good information in a concise place. I think a lot of your other questions are addressed here.

Again, welcome.

If you want a good deal on Paulson, it's time to learn about THC, RHC, house mold, lead, unleaded, barrel condition. Don't rush, spend some time looking through classifieds, especially sold listings. Generally the longer a listing has been up, the more likely that the final price offered was lower than the listed price.

I assume you want inlayed chips with spots in very good or better condition. Budget should be $2 per chip to the sky's the limit.

I've never played $5/$5 NL but I assume you're going to need a lot of $25s and $100s. You won't need any $1s. At 1000 chips it should probably look something like:

$5 x200
$25 x300
$100 x400
$500 x60
$1000 x40

Total bank: $118,500

Without relabeling, I don't think $2k will get it done, because $500 and $1000 chips are expensive.
