New guy here with a budget of 2k-3k, what kind of set can i get if i'm shooting for Paulson? (3 Viewers)

It’s possible this opinion has already been expressed above but $2-3k budget for 1000 chips implies a $2-3/chip average price. Which in my mind is clearly RHC.

HSI (Horseshoe Southern Indiana)
IG (Indiana Grand)
Diamond Jacks

Not a lot of THC options at that price point. And yes higher denom RHC will cost more per chip and IHC (43mm chips usually $1000+) cost even more.

I still think CPC for a brand new member is too early. People need to experience chips to help them decide what they like or don’t like. CPC for a first set is like getting married in high school. How often does that work out in the long run?

If you like Paulsons plenty in your budget and I would consider CPC maybe later down the road. You already like Paulsons and plenty of them to choose from. Jumers are readily available at a good price.

Totally. I forgot about Jumers.

i'm not gonna lie - i thought all the paulson top hats were the same. Is there a thread or pics that could show me the differences? When i browse the chips - they all have the cane symbol through the top hat lol... different colored chips with different bars. I was checking one of the China sets when someone told me they were ceramics and not clay. I've got lot learn but it's awesome to see all the different sets out here.

You have a very decent budget to get started. My one piece of advice: be patient. Take your time to pick a set with a design/line up you are sure you will want to keep.
There are so many options at that price point. And if it’s a RHC casino set you think you’ll end up buying, the good news is that there are always sets available for sale. They’ve been sold here in the hundreds of thousands by TheChipRoom. Look at his past sales to get an idea on prices too. Same thing for Paulson home poker lines (CDIs, Paulson Classics etc etc) - they always show up in the classifieds.

Edit: agree with @DirtyTIVA re: CPC. It’s a process to get a custom exactly right.

Very helpful everyone!! I was checking out historical sales and I’m pretty sold on the Jacks from a color and cost per chip. If I were to splurge - WTHC and THC housemold classics look really nice. Sounds like I should wait for chiproom vendor to do the sales? Black Friday is coming up in a month so hopefully something good!?!

I would wait if you don't like any of the offerings out there. There's a good chance something new comes around before the end of the year, and you'll be able to buy the exact breakdown you need.

Sometimes the chip room sells out quickly. So don’t always rely on that but it’s a good sale. Also we usually know in a month advance of a sale and I haven’t seen or heard anything yet.

Look at all the chips available now.

HSI primary
Jumers
Indiana Grand IG

All are within the budget and available (RHC).

And maybe some used THC?

TCR’s inventory isn’t predictable. Casinos need to rebrand or close and he needs to be able to buy the chips (if they’re available and not set to be destroyed). The condition and quantity of chips is variable.

Look at Lake Elsinore versus the ultimate recent TCR sale Jack Detroit of all mint unused casino grade Paulsons.

To the OP’s original point about Paulson, there’s a few general categories

- casino used that typically comes from TCR (HSI, Jumers, Diamond Jack, Lake Elsinore). Typically RHC now. The older stuff like PCA and EJ and Aztar are not often available today. Grand Victoria or some of the older Horseshoe sets like Cincinnati and Cleveland do pop up every now and then.

- casino unused usually a secondary set from a closed/rebranded casino that were never put into play but casino grade. Typically RHC.

- live casino chips obtained from active casinos today that can be exchanged for face value from the cage. Typically RHC or house mold.

- Paulson fantasy made for the home market 20 ish years ago (CDI98, CDI05, 20th century, Le Cove, Le Noir). Not RHC.
