Hello all, Brand new here. I'm not sure of all the rules yet, so for that reason, I omitted links. I'm looking for a first set of poker chips for cash game. I've been mostly looking at The Outlaw Set, the Monte Carlo, or Crown Casino. Ther Monte Carlo is sold on other sites as well- with a different face design. See Apache/ThePokerStore vs Poker Discount Shop. There is a 10% off coupon working on Discount Poker Shop right now Easter10 for 10% off. I like the Cosmetic design on the Monte Carlo chips from the Poker Discount Shop but am worried because I've heard there are varying grades of quality among the Monte Carlo chip sets, most specifically, smooth or rough edges. Does anyone have experience with the Monte Carlo chip set from the Poker Discount Shop? Do you know if this set has smooth or rough edges? Would it be safer to opt for the Outlaws or the Crown Casino set? I could also potentially order them from ThePokerStore. Apache is sold out of several denominations and shipping is quite expensive vs the poker shop that has free shipping.

I really like the BR Pro Poker Dias De Los Muertos chip set but It's a little more than I wanted to spend on a first set.

Any advice is certainly appreciated.

Welcome, as someone who's was probably where you were a year ago, and now about 3K chips in the house... I would recommend patience and waiting. Get some samples from eBay for Apache Poker's Chips. Play around with the samples. Your preference and feel for poker chips will dramatically change the longer you spend on this site.

In the mean time, save up a bigger budget, buy its once :)

Are there certain sellers on eBay that are trust worthy to order from for sample sets? I just would want to make sure the sample set matches the chips and store I'm ordering from. I was hoping that someone would be familiar with the Monte Carlos from Discount Poker Shop. I have a sample set of the Dias De Los Muertos chips from BR Poker Pro. If I like them, maybe I should just spend the money on them so I don't have to worry about it.

If I could get a decent set of Monte Carlos or Crown Casino for half as much and also like them- that wouldn't be bad either as I'm sure I'll be buying a nicer set down the line once I'm acclimated a little better to what's out there and where to order it from. I just don't like that the different sites can have different versions of the same chip- and it throws me on what I should be expecting. Discount Poker Shop also does not have sample sets from what I could tell. So, even if I get a sample set- I'm not sure it'll be representative of their product.

Hello and welcome to PCF! I bought my first set from The Poker Store and they were great to work with. I went with Claysmith's The Mint. It really wasn't long before I moved to custom ceramics from BR Pro. This site will leave you wanting for more. What is your budget and is it cash or tournament?

Lot's of good info, and as mentioned, don't be in a big rush, and buy unnecessary set or sets before finally settling on the set that you really want.
Another good source that hasn't been mentioned is the sets available on the monthly group buys. Simple sets are available for these, and are reasonably priced.
Good Luck with your search.

Very soon you will have something with all of us on this site....a much lighter wallet

Welcome! Many here have been exactly where you are now, so, let me help settle this now...run away as fast as you can! Just kidding, I know you won't take my advice, and, we're looking forward to your journey as you post pics along the way.

Get samples. I'll say it again...GET SAMPLES! I know it seems like a waste of money, but, it'll actually save you time and money in the long run. Watch the classifieds, you'll see all kinds of goodies pop up, but, without having the knowledge that samples offer you won't know what kind of deal you're looking at.

Good luck!

Would you like some cards mold ?
