I was considering getting my fracs in 39mm and the $1-$100 chip in 43mm.

Does anyone have experience with doing so? I figured it might be a way to differentiate the set from others. Thoughts?

I say no. It’s too clever with no benefit.

I say this as a guy who has a mixed sizes set - my quarters and dollars are 39mm, my fives and twenties are 43mm. Given the choice I’d make the entire set 43mm, but I don’t really have the choice. Playing with two sizes is fine but it can make cutting out bets or raises with a single hand challenging, but it’s not a huge deal. (Because if you grab the 43s first, your fingers are spread too wide to hold the 39s.)
Do what you want, of course. But if you’re gathering opinions, I say a single size is best. Casinos will often make higher value chips oversized for security purposes. But there doesn’t seem to be any good argument for doing the opposite with fracs.

For a long time now we have played with the Majestics up from 25 to 1000 and because we find the T5000 Chip ugly in poopy brown, we used the Royal Orange Chip for the T5000 and sometimes the Royal T25000 which are both 43mm. As people pointed out, betting is a little different with those 39mm and 43mm together but its still easy to handle. I would say, try it out for one night with like a couple higher denoms and see how it feels, if you like it you can buy more. Its probably a personal taste kinda thing :D

I made 36mm fracs to go with a 39mm set. I like it - makes the fracs seem more frac-y.

Never a huge fan of 43mm or larger overall - got rid of my one set I had that had higher denoms larger.

Your fingers/brain will communicate "this is tiny" or "this chip is cheap" every time you handle the smaller chip. That's a lousy feeling, given the actual cost you probably are paying for a 39mm chip.

Conversely, the heavier top-end chip in a set makes the finger/brain combo say "This is a really good/expensive chip". When the bulk of the set is one way, your brian will call them all "normal" - it's the odd sized chip that will feel different (even if the odd sized chip is 39mm).

This is for some Tina chips so I'm going to do the 'experiment' on them... worst case next group buy I get 100 more and I've wasted $40 buck :/

Let's roll the dice for the sake of science baby!!

It's been done. More with 36mm fracs and 39mm "regulars". If you like it, go for it, screw what anybody else thinks (unless they stop coming to your games because of it).

I generally don't like mixing sizes within sets if it means different sized racks that don't/can't stack nicely. Probably won't matter for those who store in big or small boxes, or have custom cases.

I love different chip sizes in sets. The only very minor nitpick is that betting with different sizes is a little awkward. Do you pick up the small chip first and then big chip? or other way around?

Check out @TheRealTeddyKGB's high denom RPC set. 39mm to 43mm to 48mm! One of my favorite sets to play with.
I sometimes use this set as a x100 set so the fracs are 39mm, 1's, 5's & 10's are 43mm and the $20 is a man hole cover 48mm.

If you are only going to have 1 set then maybe this isn't for you but if you have more than one I highly suggest it. Variety is a good thing...

No one would stop coming. 0% chance. Not my only set either... this is #5 or something. Going with the no-mold Stardusts!

Beautiful chips my friend!

No for 39mm Fracs and rest of the chips 43mm, since you be using the fracs for basically every hand and it's odds to mix them up

Yes for 39m for the rest of the chips and 43mm for the biggest denomination. since you only going to have a small quality of them and making them bigger stand out as the Value chip as well

We almost only use the 39mm for blinds!
