Jason Mercier Bracelet Bet vs. Vanessa Selbst (1 Viewer)

Bad call by Jason versus Todd there top set versus Jason's two shitty pair. Hard to fold the river with all those bets in there, but hard to ever be good with his hand. Almost certainly called because he DGAF about ICM and wanted to take down a moderately sized pot to build toward 1st, but stinks nonetheless.

Jason at the bottom right now with 9 big bets. Lots of time and a plenty of chips to still make a run...

Sadly, Mercier is out.

And Jason is in the money of the $2500 OE. Has average chips with 60 remaining.

This fucking guy runs like Jesus blowing Muhammad and I can't even fade a three outer FML.

EDIT: And now like 3 hours later he still has average chips with 33 players left. Totally insane. About to look up the record for cashes/final tables in one series. He has to be on track to destroy it.

And it's all different events, not just NLHE. Most impressive run I've ever seen at the WSOP. Would love to see him go deep in the Main.

They've been talking about it heaps in the streams. Pretty much everyone has said its been the best run ever.

Quick update: Jason ended yesterday 11th in chips among the last 13 players. He has 96k at 12k/24k limits (so 6k/12k blinds).

And as for the records previously mentioned, according to the WSOP wiki article:

Most Cashes in One Year: 13 in 2014 by Ismael Bojang
Most Final Tables in One Year: 6 in 1992 by An Tran

The $2500 OE cash makes it 6 cashes this year for Jason.
If he can squeak into the final table here it would be 5 final tables.

Damn.

Ok, he's having a good run, I get it. But how many SOHE-WC skunk trophies does he have? I'm pretty sure the answer is big fat goose egg. So enjoy your bracelets Jason, but I've still got @Chippy McChiperson as the GOAT until you show up at BBoTB next year and (try to) take it away from him.

Five consecutive final tables:

2015 BBotB Main Event - 6th I think (top 3 paid)
2015 Hitching Post Main Event- 3rd
2016 BBotB SoHe World Champion - 1st
2016 BBotB Main Event - 3rd
2016 Hitching Post Main Event - 6-way chop for 1st

Beat that Mercier

What does BBOTB stand for?

Bounty Battle on the Border
It's the New England meet up that happens every spring. It started as a battle between MA and NH players and has grown to the premiere stop in the circus poker circuit, and features the SOHE world championship.

Just because it draws more clowns doesn't make it the premier stop on the circus poker cicuit. :D
I'm pretty sure that is exactly what makes it so. We get more circus action than anyplace I've ever been. Club courage is a close second. Where else does the circus run so strong?

On a note more related to the op, I recall reading a few years ago Mercier is regarded as a bit of a dirt bag IRL. Can anyone set me straight? I'd love to be rooting for him.

Never heard any of that stuff, but I'm not typically that plugged into the poker gossip. @guinness might have some info.

Btw the most recent Twitter war among the participants and commentators on the Jason/Vaness/Timex bet concerns whether it would be ethical for Timex to start staking people to enter (specifically small field) tournaments to diminish Jason's chances of binking number 3.

Stealthmunk posted this which I think is as well-reasoned as any of the arguments against:

Wayyyy different WSOP in 1992 as well. 5 final tables in today's climate is much more impressive than 6 in 1992.

I don't like him or Selbst, however this, for me is one of those spots where you're finally rooting for Cersei to fuck the High Sparrows shit up. C'mon Jason, show that Thunder c*nt what it feels like to pay up 1.8 million!

Why does staking someone even make sense? They would have a 1 in 163 chance for that person to win. That would be 10k in cash to add to the money they will already owe. If they stake 10 that's already 100k. That's only 1 tourney..a convo around this seems pointless. Anyone else have thoughts on why this is a thing?

I'm not a huge Selbst fan, as she comes off as abrasive an Un-charismatic often, but I'm unaware of her being a douche bag. It's hard for me to root for a douch bag over a non-douche bag.

Did you ever see any substantiation of the douche bag claim with regard to Jason?

It's hard to find anything googling any poker pros name with any negative adjective or noun.

I think the story I vaguely remember came from another reg in dealer Jenn's game I used to play in. Something about his degen life in Florida casinos. Can't substantiate it. No one here supports it. I'm rooting for him. For now...

Only negative thing I could say about him is that he figured out the disability dog angle before me.
