What random event do you use to trigger a bonus feature at your game?

Sounds more like a slots question than a poker question haha. Hear me out. At my game, we play NLHE. When an ace of spade shows up on the board, the next hand we play a hand of dealer's choice. Mathematically this has an approximately 10% chance of happening each hand.

However, there's a lot of variance of how soon the next ace of spade shows up. I think our longest dry stretch was three and a half hour of no ace of spade on the board, which means 3+ hours of boring hold'em.

What are some other ideas?

Board is trips or better in NLH then we go to sudden death Bomb Pot Double Board PLO. Stacks have been eviscerated several times before when it happens.

We usually use a specific card, and we all pick it. If its someones birthday or bachelor? They choose the card. If its close to Valentine's Day? Queen of hearts. July 4th? 4 of diamonds. If they flop, bomb pot/shot/squats/whatever.
