I'd like to hear everyone's suggestions on gimmicks/props/promos that are fun to include in a home game. I'm hosting a game this weekend and want to spice it up for some extra fun. I'm thinking about adding a "show me chip" But don't even know how to properly use it, anyone at any time can use their chip and see a hand that doesn't need to be shown? I'd like to add odd stuff like that... Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
this is a 1/2 nhl game. $300 max until we get drunk and stuck then someone usually complains until we all agree to match the biggest stack.

I have used a "show me" chip in cash games. I add one to the first three pots of the day. The player who wins the pot get the chip. When they use it, it goes to the person they used it on. That person then gets to use it when they see fit. It stays in play throughout the entire game.
I thought about doing something similar. They could be purchased prior to the game starting and the person who had it at the end could redeem it for cash.

I also enjoy playing red/black.
Aces Cracked
Seven Deuce

I usually use a Show 'Em chip. Typically we start the night with a turbo All-in or Fold tourney with the buyin being a $5 scratch off ticket (winner gets all the tickets). Then for the cash game, anybody that played in the tourney gets a single Show 'em chip that can be played only once and then it's dead. Some people never use the chip, and I've seen some guys use their chip even if they weren't in hand. Everybody seems to enjoy it though.

Bomb pots every hour or a bomb pot chip being given to someone who shows down and wins with a boat or better.

That sounds perfect. At first I was thinking to give one to every player but that seemed a lil excessive. I'm going to do exactly this. Thanks

That sounds much better than doing them based on time. Cuz the stuck/tilted player will always push for them and create more action. Love it!

I like the turbo tourny idea. Thanks.

@EffenGilbert like this idea

Bet the color of the flop for $100.

Even better do it against someone with 1,000x your net worth.

Always bet on black.
Black is MY color. I worked as a dealer and gambled with a prop for the better part of 3 years each shift we worked together. . I had black the entire time.

I used to let people buy them when they bought into the table for one time use only. I will never do that again. People were buying TONS of them. Every time someone folded they would use one. People quit bluffing ENTIRELY because they knew they would have to show it. By limiting the total number in play their usage becomes strategy. They know they can't just see everyone's hand every hand dealt. Players are extremely reluctant to use them on me because they know I will hoard them. Players quit with constant cheap pots and showing all hands and started actually playing the game.

We actually came up with a ridiculous multipliers type red black game. You win when the majority of the board is your color. All board cards are in play. And then the win amount based on the best 3 card hand you can make from all board cards. Pair, trips, straight flush. Ext. We were super degens with a TON of time in our hands. The beauty if our game is you get a sweat till the river. Normal red black is over in a second. Win or loose one unit. Boring

Another thing I do on my nickel night games (.05/.10 NL) is having every player donate a $5 scratch off ticket at the start of the game. They become the "bad beat jackpot" for the night.

The color of the flop = red/black.
Not for nearly as much as Craig is talking about lol.

How about a FU chip. Everyone gets one at the start of the game. If you lose a big enough pot, like a hundred or two, you can use the FU chip on the winner of the pot and they are dealt out the next hand. Like a time out for the winner. Sounds like something funny. Or stupid?

Definitely funny. Wouldn’t do it at my game lol.

We introduced a rock into our cash game that increased interest way more than it should.

Certain prop bets I think are fun for the prop bettors (I am one of them) but slow down the game for everyone else.

I have a roulette wheel in the room that people will start red/black betting on during hands sometimes

yes. the amount of fun vs speed of the game is a balancing act. I just thought of something. I know some of the nits in my game would never go for a rock, we already play big enough for our game. But what if the rock was just an extra blind. Like 1/2 blinds, and a $2 rock. So winner of the last pot is basically another big blind in whatever position.

I might try that for an orbit or two and see how it plays.

Berkey was talking on his podcast about a game they play in Bobby’s Room called the Stand Up Game. Everyone stands up and when you win a pot you sit down. The last person standing pays all the other players a fixed amount (can’t remember I think it was like 2-5bb per player)

we have a simple cash game prop bet that is always in effect. everyone that wants to participate picks a unique denomination for the night (or until they want to change it up). for every one of your denomination that hits on the flop, everyone in on the prop bets gives you a dollar (in a .25/.50 game). but you have to call it out yourself. so if you don't call it before the turn, you don't get paid. if you get paid on the flop, you remain eligible for the turn, and if you get paid on the turn, you remain eligible for the river.

That is amazing. Trying this tomorrow for sure.

When we get to heads up…deep end of the night… @EffenGilbert and I often play 5+1+1…dealt 5…discard 1 prior to betting…three card flop…discard 1 more…betting round…then turn…then betting round prior to river and you can play all three holding cards!

does this have a name?

@dmoney maybe something to cause wildness on July 10?

that would make my head hurt. End of the night I can barely pay attention to two cards.
