So if the Pubic Safety Comity refers the case to a judge who doesn't like how it's hanging, he can decide to remove the offending member (ouch!), after which a crowd of PCFers can decide how -- and with what -- to replace it. Perhaps with a shrubbery (not too expensive).

I'm so confused...

I think the Comity for Public Saftey would submit recommendations to The Convention which is a group of Mods appointed by the Benevolent Dictator, who would have final determination of any execution of the Comity for Public Saftey’s recommendations. Of course, The Convention will generally solicit feedback from the Unintended Consequences Committee in advance of requesting final approval.

Why don't we have an incident reporting mechanism that PCF can track? I guess i'm not sure how, but a variety of incident types can be validated and timestamped so a buyer knows how serious and recent an incident is. i'm saying this because i did send poppin money, i could have known better and really the accountability is all on me, but if there was some validated documentation it would help a new chipper especially know when to not agree to FF. i did see the old thread and it did look pretty incriminating, but there's this sense that not agreeing to FF is somehow offensive to someone who has had a lot of good feedback, which Poppin also had. I do think a buyer like myself should take full responsibility for the money they send, but if it helps to preserve the nearly complete good faith transacting that happens here, it might be agreeable to everyone. ratings systems are somewhat dubious imo.

Not even sure if the 'saftey' was intentional or not by @pltrgyst . Very funny - looking at the word, it seems like an abbreviation for 'salt water taffy'.

I’ve never had anybody request non-friends and family. I have had at least a couple of transactions where the buyer simply sent the money through the merchant option, but they sent extra and absorbed the fees themselves. And I wasn’t at all offended, I just thought, okay, they’re being cautious, good for them.
But with the upcoming tax changes . . . well, I just might not ever sell anything.

By George, you've got it!

I'm about the only person I know who loves Waterworld

What’s not to love? Anarchy, mad max and a bleak dystopian future set in the middle of endless water, sign me up. I actually loved that movie.

I've said the same thing since it came out. It wasn't THAT bad and it actually shits on many movies that people go bananas for. Waterworld is better than any transformers movie that has ever came out and even though the special effects of transformers are supposedly light years ahead of Ww it's easier to"buy" into the texture of the setting that is Ww. I don't even know if that makes sense, I can't quite put it into words.
Not only do I love Waterwold, but I liked the The Postman even more. Feel free to block me now :)
My favorite Adam Sandler movie is Spanglish and my favorite Jim Carey movie is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.... I know all about the looks you must get when talking about your opinion with "normal" movie people. :D
Well, this made me search for that harvester to see if he's come back around, and turns out he's back after a few year absence and made some offers to others. I PMed those who seem like they might be striking or have struck a deal with him about my experience.

What's the right protocol for this? I know some will say dox him, and some will say just let it go there's probably more to the story - but it would be helpful if we had a standard for how to handle these sort of interactions where so much of what we do is based on trust and reputation.

Please don't take this as me being an ass, I'm not trying to belittle you or start something; but holy hell man, somebody who was/is active on this forum basically scammed you (and if it wasn't a scam there has been no attempt at explanation/making it right) and you're wondering if you should say something??? WTF? Seriously, why wouldn't you say something to warn every body else.

There's a difference when something minor happens and everybody wants names and a complete back story just because they love to sip the tea and a member outright actively running a scam.

I may be the one completely off base and if so I apologise, but seriously: YES. Please tell the site if someone has scammed you. ;)

I think sharing someones screen name and real life name along with your story is fine. I wouldn't consider that doxxing.

In my judgement the details in my situation are more in between than a pure scam, but closer to scam than honest mistake/misunderstanding. I did not receive what I paid for and was not refunded or otherwise made whole, and the seller went permanently dark.

I worry more about the precedent of people publicly airing every little problem and "first to the forum" effectively blacklists someone.

Ok that's more than sufficient to let us know who this is. Maybe it's not a scam, but it's completely dishonest and sketchy. A buyer beware is certainly necessary if he is back. Let's not let another poopin Back into the fold.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck

I'm with Mike on this one. The scenario @MrCatPants outlines is theft.

When I sell chips specifically, I'm paranoid about shorting someone. I count the chips three times before sealing the box. Once in the rack, then I separate the barrels into four stacks of five to make sure that I counted correctly, and then again while in the Warneke/CPC box to assure that I counted correctly. I then take a photo of the chips before sealing the box that way if someone tries to scam me, I can submit the photo of the chips before being sealed as proof that all were in the box upon being dropped off.

If I STILL ever short anyone even after all of that, I would move heaven and earth to fix the mistake and replace or find the missing chips. If I cannot after a reasonable amount of time, I'd offer a generous credit or refund on the entire transaction. @MrCatPants, whoever shorted you definitely deserves to be called out, if anything, to warn others that this may happen to them if dealing with that member.

I don't even look in the box. I just toss random chips in the box and hope they like what they get.

Lol k. I'll just move along. But before that:

I bought two barrels of chips from a member and was sent 19 instead of 20 for each one. Dude immediately offered to make it right with my choice of how to deal with it. That's something that no one needs to know about, is not a scam, and doesn't deserve a thread.

In your situation @MrCatPants it's a difference of 95 chips out of 100 and the seller went dark? And now he's back and is doing more business while not settling your situation from back then?????? And there's a question at all about what you should do???

Again, now only being 50% snarky, wtf man???

Have you ever needed to use it as evidence in a claim? Does it definitely prove anything other than the correct number of chips were in the box at one point? - Purely trying to play devils advocate here.

I video tape the packing process including a chip count/visual for any high value sale to someone I’m not already very comfortable with. This doesn’t give 100% proof either though.

It comes a point where reputation speaks for itself. I've never had anyone question a purchase or had an issue with a sale, but I take the photo in case to protect myself in the event something does go awry. Is it sufficient proof of all being accounted for before shipping? Probably not, but it's better than nothing.
