I play home games with family and friends. I provide the chips and cards. We switch from Kems/Copags/Fournier at my house. When hosting at relatives I also provide the same, however, with 6 decks of plastics for the night (usually 5 hours of play) there is this one person who is always complaining and wants to play with 2 dollar paper cards. How do I stop this ?

Maybe talk to that guy on the side? Ask him why he loves the cheapo cards so much? Then explain that you never buy the cheapo cards, because they actually cost MUCH more in the long run, that they only last maybe 1-2 sessions, then need to be replaced due to bent corners, swelling, etc...

Then calmly say (in a low whisper) that if he ever questions your use of quality plastic cards again, you'll quietly take grandma Betty's crochet needle and stick in his side, right between his ribs, and allow him to bleed out all over her antique rug. So STFU!

Worth a try?

Ask him:
Why do you want paper cards?
Have you ever seen paper cards used in a Poker room?
Do you know why casinos only use them in Black Jack and carnival games? They get replaced about every two hours and if used in Poker would get replaced about every 30 minutes

Feel free to pick up a brick (12 decks) for our next game. No cheap shit either. Bikes or Bee club specials. That's only about $20-$25

Tell him, "sure, but only if we can use dice chips, and a WalMart card table too!"

while i hate using paper cards as much as the next guy, it's worth noting that paper cards do have their place in a home game. if you were playing on a bare wood or plastic table i would say paper cards because the eventual curvature they get during use makes them easier to pick up than paper cards. OOTH if you're playing on a table topper or actual poker table, there's no reason to not use plastic cards

We play on a foldable felt table, but I believe this is all that this person believes in having better luck in better cards after switching to paper. Which I call BS.

Who goes to someone house and complains LMAO!!!

100% agree!
For the home games I go to, I bring the guy coffee from Dunkin Doughnuts and regularly bring decks of cards myself....and never paper decks. I'm thankful to have a game to go to just about every week. Not going to complain about that.

:cautious: Even though he uses horrible cheap poker chips..:x

The question really is how good is the player? If he constantly wins, then ban him from your game. If he constantly loses, use the paper cards one or two times. :ROFLMAO:

It is BS, but what's the harm? In the self-dealt games I play in, the dealer chooses the deck. 95% of the time, it's the deck that was just passed to him. But if somebody's running cold and wants to switch decks, who cares?

What is his reasoning for wanting to use cheap cards?
What does it matter?
I can tell you in my situation, there's a 0% chance it's a cheating/marking cards situation. This is just an older guy who's set in his ways and prefers paper cards because that's what he's used to. And I'll absolutely allow that on average, plastic cards are more slippery and thus harder to shuffle.
Bottom line for me is this is a fun home game, and there's no reason to fight over anything, especially cards. Let everybody have their say, and make accommodations when possible - LET HIM DEAL WITH HIS BELOVED CRAPPY PAPER CARDS.
