Has anyone gone to the poker rooms in Austin, TX? I will be there for a convention for at least a week (business meetings before the convention) and will be without dw and kids. That leaves at least one night for poker.

Not sure if you already went, but the two big rooms are Texas Card House and The Lodge. Both should have plenty of games (and you can check the waitlist and what games online). There are also some smaller rooms a little closer, but I haven't been to them. The way they are allowed to operate is that they are a membership club, so in your case you would buy a day pass (~$10) or a month pass (~25) (if you plan to play more than two times). When you get seated, you will clock in any then pay an hourly fee when you leave (~$10/hr). There is no rake, but you can buy separate tip chips to tip the dealers (can't come from your stack). If you play a tournament, usually there is just a flat house fee instead of an hourly rate. Lowest stakes are 1/2 and stakes above (like 1/3) tend to play much bigger.
