One of the overriding characteristics of many members of this forum is that they are compelled to "look out" for the new guys, or for many, "look out" for everyone. In most instances, what they are really doing is looking for opportunities to feel good about themselves and/or protect their ideal of this place as a community.

There is no better teacher than experience, period. Allowing other members, especially new ones, to lose money on uninformed decisions is the best thing you can do for them...
Ouch.....

Mods - can the thread crapping be cleaned up here? @Trihonda @Jeff @Payback

Edit - free bump
My bad if I was doing this, I may have misunderstood what that meant (honestly). I thought that was specifically related to disparaging what was for sale, which I hope I wasn't doing (in fact most of this was in puzzlement of why a seller would not want to make money or accept a sale/bid from particular people). So I do apologize if I was involved.

That being said, I hope you @CraigT78 also ask that the trashing of another Auction thread in the Original Post is removed. That person did attempt to follow all the rules, obtain information, and post an auction accordingly (which if I recall, people would probably rather see these sold here than eBay, other forums, etc.). Is there a better example of thread crapping than to post a competing set for auction while talking poorly of the other auction?

"Paulson Horseshoe Gardena chips with an actual playable breakdown!"
"But you're bidding in the other Gardena sale -- the one with multiple racks of essentially useless $50s, etc."

Don't forget he asked for details of the other chips then an hour later when asked to do the same just responded "No." :banghead:

I came here to see an auction bid. Is there, in fact, a valid bid somewhere in this mess of text?
If you thought an auction thread open for less than 24 hours but with 4 pages of messages was about valid bids, that's on you :D

But I think we're either at $4,000 or $4,100

If I was wealthy beyond belief, I'd pay this amount just to shut everybody up.

OK, time for the French member's post :D.

I've been lucky enough to meet in person @pltrgyst, with our respective wife and gf, last September in Paris, close to Montmartre.

We had a great time meeting and talking about lots of things, and not only chips.

Hopefully, we'll meet again soon, in Florida :D USA! USA! USA!

So, if @pltrgyst doesn't want to sell chips to any member, he simply has the right to decide so.

I have myself a black list too, though there is one single member on it:ROFL: :ROFLMAO:. Don't judge me for having a black list, I have my reasons, and @pltrgyst has his.

Everyone's entitled to sell to whomever they do or don't want to. I don't think anyone has a problem with Larry for simply having a black list - no matter how insignificant or sometime hypocritical the reasons are... I believe it's him making his grievances so unnecessarily public and preachy.

Game, set, match:
OK, let me make this clear: @Changster, you're probably a perfectly nice guy. But you're bidding in the other Gardena sale -- the one with multiple racks of essentially useless $50s, etc. -- so I'd prefer that you not bid here.

You have no pictures of your chip sets posted on PCF, no evidence of what you're doing with the chips you buy
(other than murdering many), or if you know what you're doing (e.g., the wildly inflated chip values you volunteer so freely), other than splashing money around -- and I don't need your money.

I felt slimy for a week after accepting too much of your money for the two racks of ES quarters.

If I'm going to sell chips, even by auction, I'd like them to go somewhere where I'm confident they'll have a good home.

So yeah, you're going on my ignore list, and I'd appreciate being put on yours. Dunno what effect that has on auctions, but maybe we'll see.

If seller can back out then bidders can retract bids?
All about decorum and public opinion IMO. Technically any edited post is invalid so the buyer could just do that or even just refuse to make payment... so yes but it's just not in good form just like it would not be in good form to communicate whose bids are not valid in a timely and open manner.

There has been a proverbial sh*tshow on here recently regarding people bidding on auctions and then backing out, and the confusion/issues that causes. I obviously don’t speak for Tommy, but if someone was allowed to have an identical impact by invalidating bids wildly nilly, that would be f’ed up...

Not quite sure seller's backing out, just not selling to you, which means you can't make the deal. Not backing out imo.
Not selling to the winning bidder violates the terms of the auction ...

Highest bid at [ 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, Tuesday, June 25, 2019 ] will win unless there is a bid within 5 minutes of closing time - then the closing time will be within 5 minutes after the latest bid was posted.

Anyone can do what they want, obviously, but there are rules.
