Looks like Flight A (Thrusday) is already full. I'm tyring for Friday (flight B), but this shit is really slow. I'm at a point where the screen says, Processing Please Wait...

Mike, the true game is cash.
Tournament is an invention to serve different, usually "legitimate" purposes (from education/recruitment wihtout tears, to generating huge profit for huge casinos and being able to come up with a world "champion", quite like with Miss Universe - you could enjoy love-making with any of the entrants in that contest btw), but, IMO, it's not true poker.
Don't try to excel at something that's not your game, even with truckloads of expert advice.
Your $600 may have a better chance at a a cash table, given your experience.

Tourneys require a different mindset.
When you are out of chips, you are done. So, you have to preserve the chips you have while attempting to gain more.
It is considered by some to forego getting involved in situations where you have a small edge.
(I discussed this with Greg Raymer shortly after his WSOP win and he was of the opinion that if he was knocked out early that there were plenty of other gambles in which he could participate. Of course, his bankroll was considerably larger than mine at that point. )

If you don't have a lot of patience, tournaments are probably not for you.

Cash games may require lots of patience too.
But the strategy required is more orthodox in relation to tournaments, which, of course, require a specific strategy of their own.
My point is that, after narrowing the field "considerably" (whatever that may mean in each case / structure), you 've got a bunch of inevitably very good (again a relative term) players, but from then on only the luckiest will win, not necessarily the best.
That may not be a bad thing among people who have invested $20 for a fun night with friends.
But, personally, if I had to invest $500 or 600 in poker, I 'd prefer cash.
I can stil understand people good enough (as players) to get to the final stages of a tournament and willing to gamble from then on, lured by a $1M prize.
I buy a $3 lottery ticket every week.

Another approach is to play single table satellites in an attempt to leverage your way into a tournament.
This requires more time than just buying in, but you can, generally*, sell your tournament lammers at face if you decide not to play.

I've never seen a case where WSOP lammers couldn't be sold at face.

If you only have one buy-in you would , of course, have to decide whether to take one shot with it or many smaller shots.

Based on the registration website Thursday, May 30 is full. This is based on my assumption that the lack of a registration button means the flight is full.

I am registered for Friday.

I will be there on the 30th and staying until I win this bird. Back home thereafter , then out again for the Monster - Golden Nugget Main and a few others - being able to register online is good. 3% fee so be wary. Still worth the hassle.

Before I sign up for this, does anything have any opinions on whether event #9 deepstack will be a better or worse option.

@BGinGA you are the tournament structure guy and @ChaosRock i always hear you are a crusher and play these things. Any thoughts?

I'm a total tourney noob, so I'm probably going to lose, but I figure the deeper and slow the structure, the better it will be for a cash player like myself. So I guess the big 50 is better?

I'm tentatively planning on playing in this one for the simple reason that it's just a 2-day event. The Big 50 is cool, but it's going to be an absolute circus and a deep run keep me away from the games I really want to play.

If it works out keep an eye out for me - I'll be easy to spot... I'll be the one sporting the bracelet from Event # 4

Officially reg’d For Sat flight. Was going to try to Sit n go my buy in Fri night, but was afraid of the flight filling up (probably unwarranted). I may still try an SnG or two Fri night and sell a couple Lammers, or go find a juicy cash game, hear the Aria and Wynn $1/2 PLO can be nuts.

Isn't it only a bb ante? As a non-tourney player I don't understand why that's an issue. Not questioning your logic, Im just such a tourney noob I genuinely don't have a clue why that's so much worse.

My chief goal here is to play the wsop, other than that I'll mostly be playing cash, so I can forgive them for the ante thing, once I understand it

I'm pretty much counting this as lost money, but I just think it would be cool to play an event. Fron your description I guess I'm better off in the big 50, in spite of the inevitable chaos that will come from such a large field.

If you decide to do 1 bullet I’d be interested in buying 10% $50.00 worth of your buy in for 10% of your winnings.

There are self serve kiosks through out the tournament area. Your best bet is to use one of those ASAP or go by the cage and register if you are already in town. The lines can be quite long. You can also register and pay online, but I don't know much about the process.
