So who's planning on playing in the Big 50 tournament at this year's WSOP? The field is going to be insanely huge. Perhaps we could schedule a meet up for a drink?

If you are going to play, please include the day/flight you intend to play.

Confirmed going:

  1. DoubleEagle - Thur.
  2. @kmccormick100 - Sat.

This is a cool idea:
Payout Details
The Big 50 will use the unique payout system which will see each starting flight play into the money. For each flight, a separate payout table will be produced based on the number of entries in that flight. (Example: 1,000 players enter Flight B, thus 150 players will reach the money). After the bubble bursts, players who are eliminated will be paid based on that payout table. When the flight is complete, all remaining money in the prizepool will be added to the Day 3 prize pool.

I'll be there for the CCA convention and Monster Stack $1500 mid-June

I pressed on the link, only to be told by a Government Agency that, according to EU and national law, I risk being prosecuted:rolleyes:
Pretty soviet crap...:banghead:

Probably because there is a WSOP real money poker site.

You might be considered an intruder... unless you use VPN stealth mode.

Hope to play the colossus. It lines up nicely with my summer week off. If anyone else plans to be there, Jun 22-jul 1. LMK

Yes. I have a room at the Rio.
Cool, I booked a Marriott property a ways off the strip with rewards points, but would rather stay on the strip if somebody has a room they wanna split or something - I don't have any great offers from any rewards hotels there.

I’m staying at planet Hollywood for the 7 nights. It only cost me $740usd inclusive of the resort fees and taxes. That didn’t seem too bad to me.
Been keeping an eye on other properties and just found a good MLife deal so I’ll be on the strip at Excalibur for the 3 nights under $300 total.

I’m considering it but am already asking for a month off of work this year to take care of something. The tournament might have some overlap with that time off so I can’t commit yet.

I'm considering it - depends on the timing.
I'll probably play the $1,000 Senior's on June 13.
I have accommodations at my brother's house, so I've got that going for me.
I drove last year and will probably do so again. It's a relatively easy two day drive and if I stay in ABQ i can play a few hours at Sandia.

Curious ... how many bullets you guys bringing? $500 is a big buy in for my low-rolling ass. Are people just jamming any slight edge they perceive they have, or is play pretty normal in these low buyin re-buy events?

I’m planning on two bullets one for a Sat flight and one for Sun if necessary. It’s way more of my bankroll than I’d ever spend on a buy in usually, but I feel like the value of this particular structure is high and I build a roll all year for a wsop trip. I’m going to try to play a couple sit n go satellites Friday to try and win a buy in or two for $175.

Generally the structure of these lower buy ins isn’t great, for instance the Giant and Colossus were fast structures with unlimited rebuys. This is a slower deeper structure with 50min levels, good progression, and a single reentry per flight, so there’s a lot less incentive to just shove in slight +ev spots. Faster structures give amateurs a better chance to get lucky, but I think my game is solid enough to take advantage of a better structure versus a larger less pro-laden field in this particular event.

Two here. One Thur an one Fri if needed.

I cashed in the Giant each of the last two years. I really dont remember any overly aggressive play based on the structure. I sure didnt change my play any. Just kept trying to survive.

I still say the Monster stack event at $1500 is a better value...... but that’s just me.
I played the first Colossus in 2015 and haven’t since....
But I guess if it’s your first WSOP experience, it’s pretty good. My first was a 2006 $1000, back when that was the cheapest option......
Good luck to everyone, whatever events you play :)

This structure is way better than the Colossus and almost on par with the monster stack I think (which I’d totally play, but the buyin is too big for my ‘roll), thoughts @BGinGA ?

I’ve played in the WSOP for the past decade and I really believe that table draws are a total crapshoot. I’ve played at Colossus tables that were both nitty aquariums and maniacal tables of doom.

I think the most important thing to keep in mind is to be ready to adjust to do the opposite of what most of the table is doing. People are blasting their stacks left and right you don’t want to do that as well, you want to wait for a big hand and get paid. If everybody is limping and trying to see a flop, you want to put your chips to work.

As for number of bullets, for the Colossus I think it’s perfectly fine just to bring one shot. This year the structure promises to be a ton better, so that you are likely to get a lot more play, but you still want to look for opportunities to accumulate a big stack of early on. Yes, that means pushing your equity edge, and being mentally prepared to take your lumps or even bust out early if it doesn’t work out.

If you are playing in the WSOP for the first time and you want to really savor the experience, then that’s a different matter. If this is the case then you can’t go to wrong just by playing tight. Even in 2019 it’s still a very viable way to go.

The Colossus and Monster Stack structures are both pretty reasonable (one is T5000 for 100bb, the other is T15000 for 300bb). Most increases are 20% to 50%, and the antes are individually posted and range between 1/6th to 1/10th of the big blind amount. Both are pretty close (if not exact) to the old 2007 WSOP Main Event structure (T10000, 200bb), which was the starting point for our league's structure.

Only modifications I've made to it is doubling the starting stack size to 20k and dropping L1 (thus getting rid of the 100% jump after the first level, while retaining 200bb). Another version of it that I commonly use has no antes, and all of the 20% jumps are removed (leaving it 25%-50% for all increases). If I retain the 10K stacks and 25/50 opening blinds, I insert a new L2 (25/75) to prevent the blinds from immediately doubling and cutting the stack sizes in half too quickly.

However, I'm not a fan of the Big 50 structure. Decent starting stack value at 250bb, but the table antes suck. Designed with casino benefits in mind, not player benefits. Vote with your entry dollars.

I really wish I could play this but there’s just no point. I’m driving to LA on the morning of the 4th. Day 3 doesn’t start until the 5th June.

So lame
