Ketogenic Way of eating... (6 Viewers)

I weigh in periodically, no particular pattern or day/time. Usually three-four times per week, and most often when I'm changing clothes (so either early-morning, mid-afternoon, or late-night). Almost always with just underwear/socks, however.

Weighed myself yesterday around noon when I got home (had no breakfast in a.m., which is unusual), wearing light sweats and a t-shirt. Took a nap, woke up 3 hours later, took a pee, and weighed in 1.5 lb heavier than before the nap/pee. Wtf....

That's why longer intervals between weigh-ins are better. So long as the trend doesn't start going UP, I'm happy.
Whenever I lost weight before I kept a spreadsheet and graph to monitor progress. For me I’ll lose nothing for two weeks then 7 lbs then nothing for another two weeks then 7 lbs. The graph looked like a staircase. I weighed myself every Monday morning before breakfast. I found that my weight fluctuated daily and weekly was a better way to keep track of it...

The metabolism is a weird thing.

I'm currently at about 17-18% bodyfat and am struggling to drop weight and probably eating 2600 calories, although it's certainly the cheat days that are killing me.

What I do know for a fact though is that if I get 4 weight sessions in a week, eating 2600 calories of crap food I will either maintain or gain bodyfat. Last year I was doing just that and at at around 12% bodyfat upped my calories to 3000 and ate super clean and was able to drop fat and get down to almost 10%.

I've got 2 weeks to clean up my act before holiday lol and try to lose another couple of lbs

Vodka with diet coke or whisky with water. Stay away from the wine...
A little dry red is okay. Stay away from beer and liqueur.

Beer is the primary reason that I occasionally cheat. It's the only food I can think of that doesn't have a decent low carb substitute, and while I've cut back substantially, I refuse to give it up.

Interesting. I am around the same target and sticking to 20 or less net carbs a day. My metabolism must be fucked.
Carb tolerance varies from person to person. I'm generally 30-40g per day with no problem, but some people fall out of ketosis if they exceed 20g.

For new ketoers, I always recommend 20g. Once you've been doing it for a while, you can play with that if you want to see how you tolerate a higher number.

I just started this four weeks ago. Down almost twenty pounds already - it's crazy. Not feeling as hungry (as most report) after the initial week, which is a little tough. That said, I'm finding this a lot easier as certain ranges of things are just off the menu - rather than trying to do careful moderation.

Do miss good beer though. Actually stopped getting growlers for my twice a month games just because I don't want to be near it.

STILL STALLED!!!!!! UGHHHHHHHHH :mad::mad::mad:

Started intermittent fasting again this week and cut the calories down to 2100 range. Pissing me off.

My wife and I are not overweight per se but could always loose 5-10 pounds. My wife exercises like crazy and has tried many different diets. Recently she started following a plan that limits the time when she starts and stops eating. Basically after 9am and before 8pm. She magically lost 10lbs that she had been fighting to lose for years.

I switched jobs and went back to medical sales from management. All the sudden I lost 7lbs without trying. It was those extra calories burned walking in and out of hospitals several times a day. That and no longer eating out for travel....but I was always pretty good with not over indulging.

I think eating too close to bed time is an issue. But in the end, I strongly believe that weight gain is 95% related to simply consuming more calories than you burn:tup:

2/23/2018 - Start keto
+30 days: weightloss 11.8 lbs
+60 days: weightloss 17.6 lbs (-5.8)
+90 days: weightloss 23 lbs (-5.4)
Today (+115 days): weightloss 25.8 lbs (-2.8)

I'm happy with 5 lbs/month until I hit my goal.
There is the rub to me. I don’t know the answer to this question, but can one keep this eating style for life and maintain (or even improve) their health? I knew many who did Atkins when it was hot in the 90’s, and everyone I can think of was back to their old fatter self by 2003. I am not trying to criticize in fact I applaud you guys for your weight loss, I could use some myself! I just wonder if this is truly sustainable or another fad for most.

Depends totally on how well you stick to it, its certainly not a silver bullet that permanently fixes it. I'm at ~14 months (which I know isn't years) but I can honestly say this is a lifestyle now. My weight loss has leveled off, mostly because I travel a lot more now so its tough to plan meals and i'm not as strict as when I started, but I still feel 1000x better without the carbs, so this is how I like to eat now. I also know a bunch of people who lost 50-60 pounds on keto and gained it back really quick, but they all returned to their old eating habits. You may not need to go keto forever to maintain the weight loss but something has to change from the lifestyle/diet that got you in the situation in the first place.

I'm down about 45 a few months in and do feel a lot better. Have been thinking.about actively as I get.much closer to my goal weight how I maintain long term. I'm optimistic that I wont go fully back and like Irish said it's more of a life style now.

I'm 3-1/2 months in this go-around (last time was prolly 2005 era), and I'm down about 40 lbs from my starting weight -- about 5 lbs short of initial target. Weight loss has leveled off some, maybe 1/2 to 1 lb per week at this point. If I can maintain this weight for the rest of my life, I'll be happy..... and it looks very doable, without feeling I'm missing anything or depriving myself (cheat days an incredible idea, @Schmendr1ck!). Between this (and not smoking for almost six months), I feel better than I have in years.

Keto bread, sliced and toasted (I also added some garlic flowers to the batter) + fried egg + cheese + a leaf of collared greens.

Garlic flowers (I don't know if they have their own name) shoot off the garlic bulb and can be snipped off to strengthen the bulb. They're edible. Similar to a scallion or chive.

Congrats on the weight loss and giving up the smokes @BGinGA, definitely a positive thing for anyone wanting to feel better and live longer.

The flower stems are apparently called garlic scapes...

Here's a pic of a flowering garlic plant.

Interesting way to get more yield out of your harvest.
