What are some unexplored themes in custom sets? (2 Viewers)

I think section 31 was a DS9 thing. Ultra secret all powerful infinite resources federation preserver if I remember right.
Oh I know! DS9 I think is the best series, but don't tell anyone, I'll get flamed for sure!

My favorite dog was a Dane, his name was Dax, one of the best characters in sci-fi

while it looks small, that's a volleyball, 155 lbs dog

I knew I had seen someone do something with Star Trek, Why Section Thirty One? Also units or currency is hard because star trek, I was wondering if thats why you had section thirty one, or what the tie in was?
The couple that commissioned me to do the art was also a huge DS9 fan. Poker was banned in the jurisdiction he lived in, so the "underground Star Trek" theme was born.

The decisions for which starship would cover which chip was the toughest decision (for them). Start Trek cannon chronology? Series release chronology?
Worst-to-best series? In the end it was mostly decided on ship combat worthiness. NX-01 on the T25, Voyager on the T100, 1701-D on the T500, and the Defiant on the T1000. The T5000s were expected to be rarely used, and most players wouldn't see/use them (late-game color-ups in big-field tourneys with a lot of rebuys), so it got the 1701 - breaching the combat worthiness theme.

In terms of a Star Trek theme, I think a neat idea would be using an appropriate location referenced within the show like Ten Forward (TNG) or Quark's Bar (DS9).

For Quark's Bar the denoms could reference Latinum.

Or the private poker game of the senior officers on TNG.

So the chips would be themed as spray-painted plastic-interlocking chips?
If you only go with the exact literal interpretation of what you saw in the show. However, I'm thinking perhaps along the line of a personal set from Riker or perhaps Worf brought something with a Klingon theme.

IMO, using actual character images/ships/etc. from the show is akin to a Halloween costume with the characters face on the smock.

I think the Klingons would arrange weapons on the chips, OR trophies, Predator would also do spines or trophies, also those hunters from voyager would do trophies as well.

but you could do a rounders style chip with the Targ (or JFC! triblets)

Great idea!

Maybe a ceramic chip with a faux Bat'leth mold around the perimeter.

D'k tahg & Bat'leth mold
If it was ceramics it would likely be the Klingon symbol, so on the Federation chip it would be Fed symbol, or you could go with all Klingon houses symbols

I would have a Romulan set

I wouldn't mind an Orville set

I thought latinum was a crypto bitcoin knockoff promoted by a famous asshole poker player.

Another weird, niche theme I put together on the design tool forever ago and actually really like, and is still in consideration for me when I get the budget to order my first CPCs. Doesn't follow any traditional colors which I sort of enjoy, and I love the idea of the birthday cake $100 (though it'd never see play at my .25/.25 home game lol)

Even threw together this inlay design as a little idea trial, with each inlay's ice cream cone color matched to the chip's colors. But I think if I did these, something more traditional/old fashioned would be better suited to the theme.

So many possibly amazing options here. Do you play tournaments? I like this at all the same edge spot. Tri moon stands out but also potentially really evocative just at like 314

Yeah, my home game is weekly and we generally alternate between cash & tournament weeks. The theme could absolutely be expanded to tons of other 'flavors,' and yeah, could definitely work with a non-progression tournament style. And I do love the aforementioned tri moons!

I think it would help the discussion be more robust and more serious if when you suggest an idea, mention artwork, colors, and denominations too.

Anybody can say "Scuba Diving", or "Beavis & Butthead Episodes". Put some thought into it people!

So I remembered some past McDonald's menu items, and I looked up some others. There might be something here...
Arch Deluxe
McPizza
McDLT
Szechuan Sauce
Big & Tasty
McSpaghetti
Onion Nuggets (this is where I had to start looking them up)
Hula Burger
Chicken Fajitas
Fish McBites.

OMG I created a monster!

Anybody ever put Bond Villains on chips?

Scaramanga (gold/yellow) (or Goldfinger I suppose)
Dr. No (gray)
Gen. Orlov (red)
Blofeld (white, for the kitty cat)
Kananga (green, those crocodiles, and the heroin fields)

This one might actually be kinda easy.

Not on chips, no. But I do have plans to put some on a roulette felt and maybe plastic cards.

Leaving the McRib off this list is Mcblasphemy!

I think every TV show or movie could have an amazing set if its done in an inspired way. It cant just say "Star Trek" on it. I'm not super familiar with Star Trek other than the general info like main characters and Enterprise.
I’m working on one right now and I can’t wait to show you guys! Just in the starting stages but it’s gonna be sweeeeeeeeeet! I plan to carry the theme to the custom table I am going to build as well :)
