For the last 2 years I have been refreshing this site every few minutes of every day building set after set. Loving the hunt and the excitment of always having chips travelling to me. And now lately, I feel nothing. I don’t care about new listings anymore. There’re no sets I covet and I can’t see myself ever again spending the kind of cash I used to commit on a whim before. I’ve even started thinking about unloading some of my sets as I just don’t see the point anymore. Maybe it has to do with how the prices have been going lately. I don’t know, just doesn’t feel fun anymore.

Has anyone else gone through a phase like this and then come back? Fuck, I used to love chipping and I miss the feeling. What’s wrong with me? PCF, please help!

Yep, I’ve gone thru spurts just like this. I suspect I will go through another one when my cpc set arrives. And you already have your own customs so I get it. Have you hosted much lately?

edit:

Also dibs.

Well iam still on here way too much. But i can relate to it (maybe because of different reasons idk). I think we europeans dont have the meetup season, is one point for me. I have 3 cash sets now (one more coming from the abiati group buy), i dont think i need more, iam not a colkector in a sense that i have to own all chips (sample sets dont do anything for me). Prices ofc are another point. But i think without regular meetups there is just so many threads about chip breakdown etc, or seeing pron of the same chips on different tables, there comes a time where u have seen it all. Iam not quite there yet but i am feeling iam gettting there. Still love it here so far.

I felt that way after 6 months in the hobby. Then I discovered THC molded Paulsons.

Now though, I really am in semi retirement. Besides getting in on the ground level of a NAGB, outside of completing the CPC projects I have in mind, I have nothing left to accomplish in this hobby.

The enjoyment I'm going to get from here on in is helping others with their custom CPC set builds, buying new cards, dealer buttons, and cut cards, and shit posting in Kifer's giveaway threads.

No, I haven’t really been hosting much. It might have something to do with it. My players don’t really care about chips so I have been collecting for my own enjoyment only, but still it is obviously fun to actually get the chips in play. And everything has gotten so damn expensive that it’s starting to get hard to justify keeping all sets if they’re mostly just gonna sit on a shelf.

Also, there is really nothing new for me to try. I own or have owned most of what’s out there in terms of sets from different manufacturers.

Maybe you can join @Perthmike and collect watches instead

I think there's ebb and flow in this hobby.

But today's circumstances make it particularly difficult to be a chip enthusiast. There's a real lack of supply. Prices are sky high. Highly desired chips trade hands behind the scenes. People snap up stuff they don't even want for trade fodder. Hard to be an enthusiast when you can't get your hands on chips easily.

Although there are other related areas to enjoy that can add to your poker game. Collecting card setups, dealer buttons, etc.

I think something that can reignite your chip passion is actually playing poker and using your sets. You get a much deeper sense of satisfaction when you and your friends are actually using these chips. And extra bonus if anyone in your crew is also a chip nerd.

I don’t think there’s something wrong with you, a persons interest in something can change overtime once all is discovered it gets pretty boring after that for some people. Its the same as in getting in a relationship, in the beginning it’s all dreamy and exciting, you’re at the stage where emotions are going down and logic goes up. You are experiencing turbulence and if you don’t do something the plane will crash, take action and buy ! :ROFLMAO:

I think it's all ebbs and flows, right? For the first year I basically lived in the classifieds. Waiting to see what would show up trying to understand if the prices were good, and building my first few sets.

Then I essentially went into crack overdrive, trying to build every set of imaginable.

With so many sets, including my custom CPC set, I can definitely feel the need to draw back from certain areas of PCF. However, making 3D prints for things like dealer buttons and plaques opened up a whole new area, so I'm investing my time into that right now.

I think it's all just a matter of what draws you in at this particular moment. Perhaps it's nothing, and you're going to feel like you're withdrawn. But overall, because you have a love for the hobby, it should draw you back in at some point into some area.

It’s probably for the best to take some time off! can’t always be buying. But when your ready to sell let me know ;-) lol!

You're finally adulting, as the young people say.

I've only been here a year and I already feel most of this. The prices are really the discouraging factor for me, then the availability of anything, then the fact I haven't been able to wrangle people together for games. I still enjoy trolling the forum though. Only place I think I'll go from here is a set of customs or trying to build a set I'll label or relabel.

I don't have a lot of chips but I also find it hard to justify keeping anything when I could sell and take a nice vacation, or I dunno, maybe put a down payment on a house lol. Crazy.

Exactly this. It has become ridiculous. I am afraid I’ll regret it down the line though

I'm feeling these factors as well. Hard to find things that were simple and cheap to find previously. I've been trying to schedule a game for the past few weeks with my crew and we haven't been able to get a game going. Pretty irritating

I think it’s a natural feeling.
Careful, though...unless you REALLY need the cash, hold. This place is filled with regret of those that got the bug again and are now chipless.

I go through times where I wonder how much I could get for the one custom set I have in today's chipping world since I have so much else going on in my life and I really never host games But then I think how I would l possibly/likely never get them back....
