This whole thread is basically step one for the road to recovery, admitting you have an addiction. Getting advice from other addicts seems ridiculous lol
I would never sell my CPC customs but I guess anything else could be fair game. It’s not that I really need the money, it’s just that the value of these things have gotten to where it’s hard to justify keeping unless one is deeply madly in love with them. I dunno, I would probably end up regretting selling thoughI think it’s a natural feeling.
Careful, though...unless you REALLY need the cash, hold. This place is filled with regret of those that got the bug again and are now chipless.

So good
OK I'll stop.
Yeah, might be best to sit tight and not do anything too stupid@Eriks thanks for this! I've been feeling the same recently. Putting it down to it being summer and people out and about. Come the winter when we all head back to our poker caves, maybe we'll all be more active. It's different for me as a newcomer though, I still have leaded THC to go after. I guess there are fewer things for you to buy now, especially given how the market has gone...
You haven't got any Mark Twain $25s you want to sell me, have you? I'm only thinking of you, giving you something to doYeah, might be best to sit tight and not do anything too stupid
This reminds me a little bit of guitar collections. There are those people that collect tons and tons of them, of all values. But ask any collector their favorite, and it’s likely not the rarest...it’s sometimes a far more inexpensive model that has a sentimental connection that just simply “speaks to them”.Ohh man... this has Ben book written all over it boys and girls... warning!! Warning!!!
What a fantastic topic, something I think we all go through honestly... it is no mystery that Brie and I caught the chipping bug worse than most I would say. I honestly never thought it would be possible to get this wrapped up in a hobby. After all we host $10 poker tourneys with family members once a month at best. All people who are absolutely ecstatic just to have chips with denominations on them. They thought the Monte Carlos were the coolest thing ever!!
I really can't explain what happens to you when this hobby grabs a hold of you. People look at @Windwalker and just say this is amazing... but why?? Seriously how many 2000 plus chip limits sets do you really need? It doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks, this is his journey and when that bug gets in your veins there is nothing you can do. Some have more control, reserve or definitely less budget that others that force them to be limited and make decisions. Krish is showing you what it would be like if we all had endless funds, some say no way I would ever be like that... then Congratulations that nasty bug is not as bad in you. Many can find that awesome set or two and be content others like myself get new chips in, push them to the side and keep looking for more!
I think we are up to 30 f**king sets of poker chips now... who the hell needs 30 sets of chips... NO ONE! But also who really needs Assult Rifles for "home protection" not trying to make this about politics but absolutely applies to the current discussion.... the answer is there is absolutely no need! That is from a gun loving Redneck, a 12 gauge pump will protect your house just as well as any high cap. Mag will. So why own them... they are awesome, and because we CAN!! It is human nature for Hoarders to collect!
My issue @Eriks was that most of the sets I was building never felt like "meet up worthy" chips. It is a blessing to join the forum in a PCF dense area, but also a curse! So many amazing chips around that you really have to find something nice to get praise and acceptance or feel like you belong in discussions about chips. Maybe it shouldn't matter, be happy with what you have. But that's how I felt! Even our TRKs are awesome but there are 6 - 8 much better sets of Scrowns than mine within a 200 mile circle, so yup they are cool but not going to get the wow factor out of veteran chippers.
I found myself serching for that ONE set... one that everyone could say... oh those are Ben's chips! I often thought of what my Grail set would be, when we heard rumor of a playable quantity of my favorite chip the Jokers Wild frac... I knew no matter what cost, this was the one! I don't know that we will ever fill the rack but still a decent little set now.

After a few months scrambling to find what we needed and building this beauty... it was a huge relief that finally I had that ONE, no it's not grail to many, they are used, not super cool minty chips, but definitely unique and all original, checks off every single box for me of what a dream set is!
Prior to that AI checked the classifieds 100 times a day, hoping and serching for the answer to the Grail question. Since then I don't know that I have once clicked on the "for sale" section of the classifieds. Still building sets, still enjoy chipping... but I don't think I will find anything else that means more to me, so ai have to agree definitely different feeling now.
With the insane cost increases and having my babies, I can sit back and relax a little! I will say for me it is important to keep the "building a chip at a time racks" going so that I am always hunting something like the Artichoke Joe's, probably my third favorite set, it is a long (2 years in now and no where near the finish line) slow build, but keeps me hunting something

But again I pay attention to a lot of things, how many Veterans do you see buying chips on a regular basis? At least not from the classifieds? Not very often, they have their chips but the community and comerodery of the "social media" aspect still keeps them checking in regularly. I think the meet ups and enjoying your treasures with other people with the same passions is what the "next chapter" of this hobby is all about! Find some new chippers and take them under your wing and help them get going. If you can give them some chips to get them hooked and watch their chipping journey take off, it can be almost as rewarding as finding your own chips!
Like other have said.it is ok to take a break, tryto dig up some off forum treasures and bring them to the community. Enjoy time spent at meet ups with other chippers which always leaves you looking forward to the next one. Lots of different ways you can still contribute without having your mail box stuffed full of little packages. Sit back and smoke a cigar and be content with your accomplishments in the hobby. You have reached the top of the mountain friend... not the finish line!

I hadn't touched the design tool much after submitting my order to CPC. Now that my custom set finally arrived I find myself obsessing over my next set all over again. I took a couple of months off the forum in between while waiting for my order to arrive and definitely find myself more interested again. Like somebody said, that's why sports have an offseason. Hopefully you get your mojo back soonFor the last 2 years I have been refreshing this site every few minutes of every day building set after set. Loving the hunt and the excitment of always having chips travelling to me. And now lately, I feel nothing. I don’t care about new listings anymore. There’re no sets I covet and I can’t see myself ever again spending the kind of cash I used to commit on a whim before. I’ve even started thinking about unloading some of my sets as I just don’t see the point anymore. Maybe it has to do with how the prices have been going lately. I don’t know, just doesn’t feel fun anymore.
Has anyone else gone through a phase like this and then come back? Fuck, I used to love chipping and I miss the feeling. What’s wrong with me? PCF, please help!
I second that!@Ben8257 that post was awesome![]()
But today's circumstances make it particularly difficult to be a chip enthusiast. There's a real lack of supply. Prices are sky high. Highly desired chips trade hands behind the scenes. People snap up stuff they don't even want for trade fodder. Hard to be an enthusiast when you can't get your hands on chips easily.
Although there are other related areas to enjoy that can add to your poker game. Collecting card setups, dealer buttons, etc.
I think something that can reignite your chip passion is actually playing poker and using your sets. You get a much deeper sense of satisfaction when you and your friends are actually using these chips. And extra bonus if anyone in your crew is also a chip nerd.
Well written, we are all different, but I think this covers a lot of the common factors that lead many people's chip buying habits.Ohh man... this has Ben book written all over it boys and girls... warning!! Warning!!!

Is cheesecake a euphemism? It’s called diminishing marginal returns. If you’ve never had cheesecake, the first piece you ever have is heavenly. The second is awesome. By the time you get to the seventh piece of your 73rd cheesecake, it’s just not the same.
Cheesecake is whatever you want it to be. Groupies, poker chips, or even cheesecake! Is cheesecake a euphemism?![]()
