What are some unexplored themes in custom sets? (1 Viewer)

Man the Hamburglar was creepy and I never noticed it before as a kid but the Fry Guys are Pac-Man ghosts on acid
Look up the original Chuck E Cheese. He looks like he would serve you pizza during the day, then creep through the neighborhood in his windowless van at night.

I think creepy 1970s corporate mascots has some potential.

Western theme focusing on famous Forts (Fort Apache, Sill, Laramie, Defiance, Yuma, Collins, Sedgwick, Sheridan, Davis, Beauford, Crook etc.).

Railway Companies (Union, Hudson, Granite, Danville, Mowhawk, Baltimore etc.) or famous stops (Cheyenne, Ely, Durango, Yuma, Silverton, Livingston, North Platte, Abilene, Reno, etc.).

I actually like the Rat Pack idea quite a bit. I think it could be really cool if done right...

There's some nightmare fuel for ya. Make these chips!

i like the idea of video game themed sets a lot. super poker world came out pretty good.

Surprised that no one has mentioned or ever done a King Arthur set...?
King Arthur
Lancelot
Merlin
Guenivere
Modred
Gawain, etc. etc.

I think it would be super fun to do a set of chips with a John Hughes or old Hollywood movies theme. John Hughes did all the amazing 80s movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Vacation movies, 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Weird Science, Only the Lonely, Uncle Buck, Planes Trains and Automobiles, and a ton more. Fun fact, did you know that the license plates in many of his movies had meaning? Check THIS out.

Substitute John Ford for John Hughes and make it a western theme and I'm in!!

The Searchers, Stagecoach, Fort Apache, Rio Grande, The Horse Soldiers, My Darling Clementine, How the West Was Won, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and on and on. Some great imagery is available for western-themed inlays from all of these movies.

What I get from this thread: There are more terrible chip themes based off of movies than actual chips made with a movie theme.

I doubt that is a coincidence.

I always thought that something like "Galactic Casino" could be a cool theme (maybe with a flying saucer or a planet with rings or a galaxy ...).

I think it would be neat if there was a thread that discussed themes which would be great in a custom set, but haven't been done yet. It might give me, or anybody really, inspiration to design something and slap it on some China Cards Molds or Classic Poker Chips.

I'll start. I've frequently toyed with the idea of fruit on chips. Yellow = banana, Orange = orange, Brown = cacao, you get the idea. Additionally, there is almost no country on the planet that dominates more than 1 or 2 types of fruit production. If your blue chip has blueberries, the USA is the leading producer, so that could be part of the theme. India leads the world in lemon production (yellow). The red chip could have cherries, and Turkey by far produces the most of those. Cacao is Ivory Coast. Oranges are Brazil, Raspberries are Russia. One might even incorporate the name "casino" in different languages into the chip.

At any rate, I don't recall seeing a "variety of fruits" set of chips before.

What else is out there to explore?
One of my favorite sets of all time is a fellow did one with fruit box labels like you would see for packing grapes and apples and what not. I saved a picture of it somewhere I’m gonna have to go find it. It was an ASM set and it might’ve been all the way back in Chip Talk days.

"The Orchard" if I remember correctly, and yes, pretty early CT set as well. I managed to get a sample set (there weren't many) but those are at home right now otherwise I'd snap a pic for you. One of the early custom sets that made me really want customs of my own.

[EDIT] Are you thinking of these:

"Old Orchard" here, also spectacular customs, but not the ones I was thinking of.

Those are great I’d forgotten about them but they aren’t the ones I was thinking of. These had a different fruit on each chip. The art was in that retro style though.

Wouldn’t be able to tell them apart! Would be like a solids fiesta.

Scorpion. Sub Zero. Noob Saibot. Smoke. Reptile. Rain. Ermac.

Right about when I stopped playing.
Oh no doubt, I agree, a mock up with more of the characters would work. Stopped playing around the same time but man, the quarters I pumped into that machine........
I'm not creative by ANY stretch of the imagination. Quick work on CPC came up with this for 3 guys, guess who?

I present to you, The Bowel Room. Literally came to me as I was on the porcelain throne. No?
