Thread crapping (2 Viewers)

Just curious if some of the alluded to previous GB's that were privately done were from closed casinos/cancelled chips.....if so that doesn't really fall into exactly the same category.....as stated this was the "white whale" fully customized custom Paulson set. Like I have already said, I was initially disappointed, but then understood why it had to happen the way it did, and for I have made my peace with it.......and it is truly awesome to see some new gorgeous chips out there

This chaos was well orchestrated.

Eric,

I'm not sure this is quite the case otherwise everyone on here would know about all of the "misinformation" that keeps getting brought up. I going to wager a guess that were more people involved with the initial GB, than the number of people that have this "misinformation" that was circulated....maybe when I'm bored later I'll make a poll thread.

Several people returned to CT in recent weeks. @RainmanTrail recently launched a new chip forum - Chip Donkeys - that is theoretically in alpha testing mode, but I don't think it's comsidered a secret.

YGTBFKM.....I LOL'd at this.....hard

That, plus acquisitions from private collections, along with direct manufacturer orders. Plus some projects that never saw the light of day (some successful and, some not) or those of which I am undoubtedly totally unaware.

Private chip endeavors are nothing new, and have been around the chipping community far longer than I have. And they really aren't group buys at all, many of them, at least not in the classical sense of how the term is generally used. This one just turned out to be a whopper in terms of what was accomplished. Surprised everybody, really.

I don't care how secret it was done, or who was involved, or how much they're going for. Nobody can say that the Star chips are anything less than fantastic. Of all the epic sets that have come through, these outshine them all. I hope that in time, after the anger subsides and butts heal, that the story of how they were acquired will come out. I would really love to hear it.

I wasn’t privy to the specifics but I probably know enough to be dangerous. Get your ass to Denver... I’ll buy you a few beers and spin you a yarn.

If i hadn't met JSD already, after that post id think he looks like this:

My birthday wish will be for anyone on PCF to forever retire the phrase "butt-hurt". It belittles other's real feelings, while being simultaneously condescending. Get thee to a thesaurus; that is all.

Agreed, as i personally feel this is my own phrasing (now hijacked) for when i have made poor choices regarding which Indian restaurants i went to.

But my proctologist didn’t understand when I told him I came in because I was needlessly offended....

I have been guilty of using this term in the past... although my recent usage was a reference to a quote from a former member, who self identified as such.

It will be my resolution for this week to use the term less (or not at all). HBD. ;)

And we've gone from talking about thread crapping to legitimate thread crapping. Talk about coming full circle!

Reminded me of this gem...

If people can post whatever price they want to sell their chips at, I want to be able to comment on it and not get my content deleted or worse, banned.

Drama (among other things) is what makes forums fun and interesting.

You could argue that members with more tenure have an obligation to point out market prices and comment directly in threads to help educate newer members.

The line should be drawn at ad-hominem attacks. Any thread crapping directed at chip price, condition, images...barring the OP themselves...should be allowed.

I think it's a great idea. But people seem opposed to it.

I want people to get good, fair deals as much as anyone - maybe even more than the average bear - but...

Any thread crapping directed at chip price, condition, images...barring the OP themselves...should be allowed.

(n)

Problem is that it opens the door for people to sabotage potential sales.... which could be done intentionally for a multitude of nefarious reasons, none of which would necessarily have anything to do with price. It just isn't a very friendly approach. I've been on places where it was allowed, and it was pretty ugly. It's just a bad idea.

Are you saying you would like to comment publicly as a potential buyer or you want to comment just as an onlooker that has an opinion?

Is stating - "I'd be interested at $xxx" considered crapping?

Both - it’s a public markplace that has functionality for users to add comments. If you’re walking through a flea market, you naturally enter conversation with those shopping the ‘wares’ with you. Comments like “hmm these are overpriced” or “wow what a deal” are natural during this process. And multiply the level of snark in this case since it’s the internet...

Transaction discussions and conversations between potential buyers that occur in the thread are open for everyone to see. There is no rule about only interested serious buyers being able to post. So it creates an environment in which only positive things are said in a thread...

Now, buyers and sellers are free to take those discussions into PM and whatever transpired there is none of my business.
