Running a tournament on Super Bowl Sunday.
18 players, we haven’t decided if we’re playing 2-9 man tables or 3-6max?
We’d like the tournament to last 6 hours
How does this look?

- 50,000 starting stacks
- T100 base
- 20 minute levels

100-200
200-400
300-600
400-800
500-1000
600-1200
800-1600
1000-2000
1500-3000
2000-4000
2500-3000
3000-6000
4000-8000
5000-10000
6000-12000
8000-16000
10000-20000
15000-30000
20000-40000
25000-50000

Any suggested changes to blinds? Or anything else?

People that hate antes generally just want to limp in to see every flop. For a self dealt game, BB antes are the only way to go, otherwise you spend half your time reminding players to ante and then trying to figure out who didn’t ante when everyone splashes the pot.
Yep. My tourneys always have antes. But I play in a game sometimes that doesn't have them and I was able to not my way to a 5th place cash with garbage cards all night.

What adjustments do I need to make with starting stacks if I add a big blind ante? Obviously adding a BBA is going to speed things up considerably.

Probably not too much. Based on everything you laid out in your first post, you're probably looking at the the tourney running about 7 hours with breaks included. Should end with the BB around 45,000. So that lands between levels 19 and 20 in your structure, which is 6 hours and 20 or 40 minutes without breaks. In my experience, your game will actually end a level or two before that 45k BB mark.

I would add a couple levels early on. 1/2 to 2/4 cuts your stack in half right away. Could definitely go 1/2, 1/3, 2/4. Also 1000/2000 to 1500/3000 is a huge jump at that point. Your big blind increase as it is now for levels 6-9 would be 200, 400, 400, 1000. I’d like to see a 1200/2400 inbetween or even a 1000/2500. That would make it a much more balanced 200, 400, 400, 400, 600, 1000.

As for tables I think 3x6 is more fun for most people as long as you have room for it. But you don’t necessarily have to follow 6 max rules. You could go to 2 tables of 7 once someone busts at the 3x5 stage instead of playing 5-5-4. Same with the final table play it 7 handed once someone busts at 2x4.

I need to revisit this thread because it’ll be time for this tournament soon.
Everyone would like to shave about an hour off the tournament.
Suggestions on how to make that happen?

18 players 50k chips 5 hours. With that many chips in play you can’t really do a 15 level tournament without some really aggressive jumps. So I’d say to play with less chips if you want to keep it 20 mins, or make it 15 min levels.
100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, 600/1200, 800/1600, 15 min break and remove 100s and 500s. That’s 2 hours so far.
1000/2000, 2000/3000, 2000/4000, 3000/6000, 4000/8000, 5000/10000, 6000/12000, 8000/16000, remove 1k. That’s 4 hours.
10000/20000, 15000/25000, 15000/30000, 20000/40000, 25000/50000.

Shorten the blind intervals later in the tourney. I go from 20 to 15 min intervals after the 3hr mark

You can easily drop 500/1000, 2500/5,000, and either 4,000/8,000 or 6,000/12000. Those are easy changes you wouldn’t even notice

Structure will now be
50k starting stack
T100
Starting stack will be 20/6/20/5
