Is the doubling to 1k/2k a subtle "Finish this thing and get outta my house" thing? Don't see why you'd want to double after a nice progression to start. Add in an 8/16 (or even an 8/15 like we do, because the multiples at 1600 are hard on the brain once you're about 4 hours in like our game that starts at 10/20 with T5s).
