Thought I might share; decided to build a small craps table topper, custom design with a padded rail. Designed to sit on top of a standard 72" x 30" folding table.

I'll eventually post a list of materials and stuff for those interested!

Picking up my sheet of plywood and some foam for the rail pad today - last 2 pieces I need to start the build!

Very cool idea! I dont think I've seen this done before.

Can't wait to see your progress.

Got my plywood cut.. using nice 3/4 for the main table. Using a scrap piece of 3/8 I had in my basement for the padded rail. Made one accidental cut but it will be covered up by foam and vinyl.

I'm using the same black vinyl I'll eventually use for the padded rail for the underlayment. So I got that all stretched flat and stapled down. It's starting to look like something. The felt layout is next step and im excited!

I also got the chip trays and stuff stained. Went with a dark walnut

Couldn't resist and started positioning the felt. The cat got on it and rolled around so ignore the hair :)

Measured and positioned for over 30 minutes.

The dimension of the play area was supposed to be 60"... But it measured at 61.5". Then, by the time you stretch the fabric it ended up closer to 62.5".

I'm glad I took the time to lay it out and measure everything thrice.

And heres the big unveil...

I still have to secure the drink rail with a dozen screws, and shorten the dealer side trim piece by about 3/8". Then Hit a couple spots I missed with the stain.

It looks gorgeous though. I'll post the list of materials for anyone interested. I think I might be teetering on $500 total. Probdbly underestimating the more I think about it.

awesome job!

This is awesome! I want to build something like this so badly. I built a couple poker tables but I’m not very confident I could do something like this well. Great work

Material cost:

Wood ($162)
$89 - 4'x8' 3/4" maple plywood
$8 - 1"x2"x6' Poplar (dealer side trim lip)
$35 - 1"x12"x4' Poplar (back side)
$34 - 1"x12"x2' ($17*2) Poplar (curved sides)
$6 misc lumber for fitting to my folding table.

Misc ($77)
$11 1.25" screws
$11 2" screws
$10 staples
$18 wood conditioner+stain
$27 10pk yuanhe jumbo cupholder (Amazon)

Fabrics ($157)
$13 2yd 1/2" HD foam (Joann fabric)
$44 3yd Arctic vinyl 54" (Joann fabric)
$100 6' craps layout (Casinosupply.com)

Specialty craps stuff ($295)
$200 premade chip rails (inc. shipping) (Etsy 7out wood)
$95 black diamond rubber, puck, 36" stick (casino4u)

Sooo yeah. Total cost $691. The biggest splurge here was buying premade chip trays on Etsy. All the casino supply shops were out of stock and it would have been $50 more in lumber plus $85 to buy the router bit needed to make them myself. Not to mention I don't have a router table. I just bought them so I could get the project done.

Bit more than I had originally thought. But easy to forget all the $ you have into something when you accumulate stuff over the course of a month.

Great write-up and custom build. This beats lugging around a full sized 14ft table any day! I love seeing how creative folks are with raw materials.

2 questions-
Are those our dice as well?
What chips do you find yourself playing with on this table?

Q1: I think those are your dice, yeah.
Q2: ALL THE CHIPS! :D LOL you are on a chip forum after all :D

Honestly, I have only used it a few times so far, still learning to deal fluently with it.... I do have a group of guys that want to come over for a craps night, I should get that scheduled!!

That's my biggest problem as well. Craps is fun to play, but its too much math and work to be an unpaid croupier
