Hi guys.

Does anyone have a suggestion for heavier chips that are still good and around 1 dollar a chip. Somehere in the 12-14 gram range.

Any suggestions for something decent and heavy that I can recommend to my poker buddy looking into a set.

Old thc leader and nice are out of his range. Anything new fit the bill?

The Matsui chips in the open group buy are nice and heavy but slightly over $1 per chip. Not too far off though.

I think 39mm Matsui is about 11.5g. I love them, but the metal insert in the center changes the balance of the chips. Also the slickness makes them feel lighter when you shuffle. The pick Hobson $5s you sold me feels heavier even though they are a gram lighter.

Heavier does not equal worse either.

The only high end option are BG JAV chips, which weigh nearly 14 grams (oversized chips a bit more). Sets are incredibly rare though and you won’t get new ones for anywhere near $1/chip. Amazingly, these are available though... :whistling:

Heavier is not better.

True, but there is usually a weight sweet spot for most people.
For me personally, other chip aspects being equal, 10g is better than 8g.
I prefer the feel of $1 PNYs (~9.6g) to the feel of a $5 PNYs (~8.3g).. ymmv

Any idea why he wants that weight range? Doers he currently play with a cheaper set in that weight range?
Do you know what he considers "good"?
CICs may be his best bet.. or just get a set of Monacos or something and be done with it.

..hey it's "Casino Clay".. can't get better than that

Honestly I recommend those Monacos to anyone looking for an “upgrade” but aren’t chippers. They are great chips for what they are.
Agreed.. and he may actually prefer the feel of them over BJ CICs
so since no one has said the mantra yet.. get him samples and let him decide

I don't mind cheaper sets like the Monacos in terms of feel and playability, but if you're playing for stakes that matter at all, security is definitely a concern as anyone can pick up a set of them for super cheap.

For some reason, I often envision someone resembling the hamburgler driving around the country with a set of dice chips, Monacos, Monte Carlos, and some China clays in his trunk, ripping off home games $25 at a time as his sets get lighter and lighter every day lol
