Howdy gang,

I moved into my house Labor day weekend and found out my development has a weekly $1/$2 game that meets up. After getting invited I've been hooked to playing poker, I have played for a long time but am just getting back into it. As a result, Im making an attempt to host a smaller home game for buddies who don't want to invest so much into poker, thinking 25/50 or 50/1. Regardless, I bought a poker table, some copeg cards and all thats left is chips (for now will probably use my friends dice chips until I can make an educated decision on my first set). One of the guys plays with Milano's which I like, good feel, good stacking, not too heavy. I enjoy reading through events options on chips and such, so many decisions to make. I keep changing my mind on which route to go, do I spend a little more and get nicer chips? I was originally dead set on the Monte Carlos but the more I read the more cheaper they seem. The Casino Royals seem awesome simply because im a bond fan and I think they look awesome, but theyre heavier. Ahhh so many factors and decisions to ultimately make.

Anyway, here we are. Been reading through the classifieds trying to find a decent starting set. Any tips/tricks are appreciated!

Welcome and good luck making up your mind. A good starting point is getting samples, and you have probably already read that, but it is true. You really don't know a chip till you've held it in your hand.

Welcome! You'll hear it a million times, but get samples, and resist the urge to buy a set to hold off the need to buy your favorite set. The temptation is there to drop a few hundred on a decent but not great set, and you'll find yourself wanting the badass one in a month or two. Save up and do it right the first time! And run it by us before you do, don't buy some goofy breakdown and then hope we can salvage it.

Best place to get samples? Not sure if the forum has a preferred vendor to support. Thank you

I likes this for explaining poker chips but search sample sets on here and see what pops up.

What’s ur budget like?
You gonna host cash tourny both?

Get ready for a fun ride!
Good question, budget is weird. Initially I was going for something around $150, but then I keep going down the rabbit hole of "for only X much more, I can get these chips!" So here we are ha. Id say $300ish? For a cash game set, 0.25/0.5 and 0.50/1 games interchangeable.

The desert hear chips I liked a lot from a looks perspective but they are heavier and seem like ok quality. Just trying to keep up on a lot of research

Welcome to the forum, the group buy is a great option or checkout classified for a deal. If you go in on the group buy, I highly recommend the Greek Mold, but get samples. If you do go with the group buy and get Greek mold get the Casino Azteca design, shameless plug to get more people to buy the design :D

I just got some samples sent to me from broken arrow, excited to see how those go. I really like the colors of the Royals, thinking of trying to get a set of them or find something close in a 39mm

Welcome to the jungle!

What kind of budget are we looking at here? You can go hunting for tigers in the jungle

I want to say between $300-400 but that number can change. I have been debating on getting involved into a group deal or looking elsewhere. I really like how the Royals look, just ordered a sample of them.
