So weird question. I managed to find someone selling Nevada Jack Ceramics on marketplace (with some other basic sets) for $50. I picked them up. 400 chips. They look almost new. But they have a terrible old lady/man home smell lol. Like a musty old couch. Can i just wash them with soap and warm water or will that ruin the printing? The other alternative i would imagine would just be to air them out but that seems to be taking longer than I wish.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

Do the chips smell or is it the case they came in? Perhaps the old man/lady had a dog......who came into contact with the case at some point on the floor in the basement.......

Either way soap and water is a great idea, warm water not too hot (ie hand tolerable, not burning your skin). To clean the chips, after seperate the chips from the case and see if the smell remains...if it smells and it's an aluminium case with sponge/felt interior the case is done get a new one

Do you just use soapy water in the cleaner?

This and distilled water. Works great

Never use soapy water in an ultrasonic cleaner. Any type of bubbles completely negates the ultrasound waves from being able to work.

Wow. You guys are super helpful. Thanks for all the advice.

And yeah its the chips themselves too and im gonna ditch the cases.

I’d soak with baking soda water maybe add dishwashing soap for ceramics that stinks. A little warmer water would be better, but don’t make it too hot. Then remove the remaining soap/baking soda residue (along with the stinky odor) with water, gently wiping with wet towel. Finally dry well by leaving them on a dry towel on top and bottom.

I don’t have ultrasonic, so I soak with buckets.

Do NOT soak inlaid clay chips, or else the water will damage the inlay. This only works for ceramics.

Also as other said, abrasives or chemicals are a big no.
